Well done!

Don't worry too much about the breathing through the nose thingy and breathe, as long as you are comfy, although taking air in through the nose the oxygen goes deeper into the lungs, taking the higher volume of air in through the mouth is really what's needed in the instance, that's what most of us do, I take air in mainly through the mouth but use both remembering on occasions to take deep breath through the nose..😊

Thanks Dave, I’ll try to remember to keep trying 😩🙈

Well done! I agree with davelinks about the nose/mouth breathing issue - I find it much harder in the earlier stages of a run to breathe through the nose, which makes sense as the body is asking for greater volumes of oxygen I suppose.

Then, once I am into the swing of things, I am able to breathe more deeply, through my nose (though certainly not 100% of the time, and I always exhale through my mouth). However I think that during the earlier stages of C25k the runs are still short so you probably don't get much of a chance to enter that phase.

You may well find it easier to practice breathing through your nose from now on, as you start running for longer and without walking breaks.

That said, I think the best idea re breathing is to do what comes naturally and not to overthink it at this stage.

Tbh - I would have never even realised there were options with breathing 😂😩 unless I had read about them here!!

I’ll keep trying it, and there are certain sections when I run that feel relatively comfortable, so I’ll try and remember to switch up the breathing at those points and see how I go.

I am an ex smoker (30 years) and now vape, so my lungs probably aren’t too happy with all the extra demands being put on them 🙈.

Definitely take it easy and breathe as it comes naturally to you, don't overthink it! You're doing really well, and are over the hump so to speak :)

Just breathe normally ! Don’t even think about it, just breathe. Slowing down helps 👍

Week 6 is the toughest, so now that's behind you, you are batting downhill from here on in

😃👍💪🏃‍♀️

I do hope so, finding it more difficult to motivate myself to get out and run, although haven’t missed a session yet since I started on the 1st Jan - it did take me 3 goes though to complete W1R1 🙈🙈🙈

Well done for sticking with W1R1. In someways it is the hardest run as you have no real idea of what to expect often accompanied by many years of no meaningful exercise. I started on 8th Jan and am now on week 7 too.

Yay, a virtual running buddy 🏃🏽‍♀️. I’ve got ANOTHER 25 min run (W7R1) on the cards for tomorrow - eeek!

How are you finding things??

:) Hope your run went well? Each time I run, I surprise myself. The first 25 min run was a slog but I persevered and felt good when my rhythm eventually kicked in. I'm enjoying running more than I expected!

Just breathe... and.. relax into the longer runs... slow, steady, and stay slow... the runs are just made for enjoyment :)

Let your newly found running legs find their own happy pace:) They know now, what to do...you just go gently and let them do it:)

I’ve definitely taken onboard the ‘slow down’ mantra and if my legs could convince my brain - then I’d be marathon material 😂😂.

Back in the real world, however, I am very much enjoying being outside in the elements but struggling to let go of Laura’s guiding hand now that I’ve hit the longer runs.

Thank you for the advice 😊

you may well be marathon material! I kid you not!

There are loads here who were where you are a bit since but who are now running marathons and training for ultras. We ran off the couch as you are. It's amazing what we can achieve did we but know it

No need to hurry. Slow and steady is the best way. There's no point in trying to push until your body is ready. It's just small steps at a time. Fun though! Or it will be once better weather arrives. If you can run through winter then you've nailed it

Good luck !
