Yesterday me and Mr JCR arrived in Malaga for our Winter Training camp, - him to cycle and me to run. The whole idea being that warmer weather might just make the effort a little easier and more pleasant. Well Malaga in February is absolutely glorious - 20 degrees thereabouts during the heat of the day and an ideal temperature to run, when you’ve arrived on the midday flight from London City Airport. Except that a rather splendid lunch then evening tapas got in the way. So Winter training Day 1 was 5-0 down - coincidentally the same as my team’s result against Porto FC. But in this case it was 5 lots of tapas consumed, versus zero amount of kilometres run.
Day 2, no excuses allowed, so a run was scheduled for early midday - mmm, how I’d forgotten how to dress for the heat. I’d also forgotten that famous saying ‘Mad Dogs and Englishmen’.
Summary is - Winter Training camp a fab idea, requiring a little more self control in the area of tapas consumption. Drink more water and wear less clothing. And stop gawping at expanses of blue sky (although I do think it’s allowable given we don’t get this that often in the UK)
Oh and I managed a slow, steady 12km+. That’s a good distance for me, given my Alzheimer’s challenge. For more gory details go here:-
I wondered how long you’d hold out on the PCTs. Real ones from Portugal are so different aren’t they?
Vampire Kettlebells informed me that the prospect of sun would give them a headache. And besides which Mr JCR’s bike took up 50% of the luggage allowance...
So no Vampire Kettlebells, just me and inappropriate clothing!
Thanks Anthie, I’m out again tomorrow, with slow steady streaking in mind. Running streaks that is - not naked streaking! Malaga would never be ready for that
A friend of mine did one of those in Portugal and really enjoyed it. She came back with loads of tips but I wasn't a runner then and it all went over my head! Enjoy it Jan 🤗
I cannot begin to say how jealous I am.... wow! The nearest I can get to that is that I was running past city airport last weekend....!!! Enjoy your trip and keep posting the fab pics 😻
Thanks - it means a lot coming from a woman who is doing pull-ups! in red lipstick .... I tried the red lipstick trick - it is a good morale booster - tragically I am now one of those middle aged women who runs with hankies, and so with the combination of menopausal hots and a runny nose I ended up looking like Robert Smith of The Cure....
I loved his look!!!yes the lips gives a real boost doesn’t it, and I am so with you on the hot sweats, I’m going through it too.... I have to say I haven’t got to the extent of carrying hankies.... I usually blow my nose on my buff!!!!!!
