The mental challenge - how can I make my mind (as well as body) stronger?

Wallfloweratthedisco profile image

Hey all, hope everyone is well. Been enjoying lurking in this forum. Everyone is so supportive and nice (on the internet...really?!??!)

Question is as above. I also feel like the mental side of running is the toughest bit. I just don't tend to believe I can do it, and feel like I am fighting my mind the whole way.

A bit of background: did C25K a while ago. Running for a minute was so hard at first. Currently training for a half marathon. Did 10km for the first time yesterday. I am slow, but it was ok - but a mental battle with myself!

So my question is - do you have any positivity tricks? Podcasts to improve mental positivity, mantras etc? And does anyone else have the same issue?

Thanks!

Hi Wallflower,

I use YouTube’s Michael Sealey for hypnosis at bed time in particular a weight loss one. I just done a quick YouTube search and he also offers this one to listen to. Success, confidence and motivation.

I personally haven’t used this particular one but his other one are great.

Hope this helps.

I use podcasts as a distraction from possible negativity, ones that absorb me - I store them up. Today’s was Adam Buxton’s latest 🧐

Thanks! I am thinking of switching from music to podcasts - something I can use to keep my mind from getting too into itself. I will check out Adam Buxton.

That’s exactly what I did - swapped from music to podcasts - so many good ones out there. Have a look at the top ten that’s sometimes a rich seam

I listen to a lot of podcasts, watch a lot of YouTube videos, and read a lot of books on the subject. There is a slippery slope from exercise to motivation to philosophy, but I have greatly enjoyed sliding down it.

By setting yourself goals and achieving them.

This is a good point. Sometimes I am convinced I can't do something...but knowing I have managed to either achieve it before, or achieve my earlier goal, could help. Maybe I should focus more on this.
