Runners knee

So today I completed week 7 day 1 after having a week and a half off due to “runners knee”.

Have to run with a knee support from now on 😩

During my run all I kept thinking about was how the support was slipping down or when adjusted too tight. I felt like Goldilocks, couldn’t seem to find a happy medium.

Any recommendations for a good knee brace? Mine is a bracoo adjustable one but it’s annoying!

Thanks in advance x

It could well be runners new niggles and that you wont' need a brace at all once you get that knee strengthened

I had a bloody annoying knee when I was doing the programme and stopped running, which was absolutely no good as it hurt even when I didn't run. I thought in that case to hell with it and started running again in the hope that I would run it off. I did! It was fine and never bothered me again.

We do get all sorts of annoyances body wise as our bodies are just protesting at the new exertions. We lose the niggles as we get stronger as we work our way through the programme

I didn't put anything on my knee as I didn't want to have to rely on it

I hope you'll be pain free soon and able to crack on without the irritation of a slipping knee support. Good luck!

I hope that it doesn’t come back it was awful! My knee was swollen and red last week and Stabbing when I put weight on it. Not good at all. But I hope like yours it goes away 😁 xx

Thanks old floss, I’m doing similar exercises. I need to wear the brace as my knee isn’t tracking properly. Apparently once I work on running form my knees will work better?!😐

Hi. I’m also a new runner and I suffered early on (I’m now in W5) from runners’ knee, as well as pain in my heel and lower back. The back of my knee felt taut and stiff and the whole leg felt ‘twisted’. I bought a compression sleeve (Modetro) and continued to run, making a conscious effort to run in the middle of my foot, listening to where my body was experiencing pain and adjusting my stance until I found a position where it didn’t hurt (and I ran very slowly!). I also considered stopping running for a while, but found that the pain actually reduced when I ran, so I continued and now hardly have any problems. I would recommend this particular sleeve for short term support (and there’s no danger of it slipping) as it gave me reassurance that it would ‘hold everything in place’ while I was running. I ditched the compression sleeve after a couple of weeks because I didn’t want to rely on it and don’t feel I need it

For me, running through the pain seems to have worked; I assume because my leg has become stronger. That approach might not work for everyone, though.

I use Kinesiology Tape...its brilliant, supports my knees and stopped them from hurting. I got mine from Home Bargains!
