Jostling with the January Joggers

Finally, after a couple of botched attempts with an intermittently dodgy leg (suitably rested and stretched), I managed to get 8km ‘in the bag’ this morning. Although it was a slippery little sucker, kept trying to wriggle out at every blinking opportunity.

I am ridiculously happy with myself :) I never thought I had any of this in me - 8km, running in public, in lycra! Eek.

I had to extend my route out into new running territory, so as not to get bored silly, plus I was late out at about 8.30am…. all this equals higher chance of being seen by more people. Usually, I look in the mirror before I go out and sigh heavily, grateful it’s still dark and no one’s out. I seem to have the thighs of an ex-olympic shot-putter who’s gone to seed. Today, it was broad daylight. Miraculously, when I looked, I thought ‘actually you don’t look that revolting, just get on with it, woman’. And so I did!

The streets and park were littered with joggers, lone; two abreast; in packs. Usually, I see one, maybe two at most, today I saw about 30. That put me on edge a bit, more people to contend with.

Oh well, who cares? I didn’t. I didn’t?!! For the first time since I began back in May. Jogging down the main road, cars going by. I didn’t care, I was enjoying my run. And of course, they probably didn’t even look twice at me. Just my crazy brain. I can’t believe I finally feel this way, to me it is the biggest break through. I wouldn’t say I could run a race yet (too many peeps) but slowly and with determination, I am getting towards where I want to be, mentally and eventually I hope, physically. Hooray for running, it can be done! :)

Aw thanks! So do you xx. As my mum has always told me 'you're a bit slow, but you get there in the end' !! In this case, slow is good. :)

Oh Fishy, I am so proud of you and how far you've come. To think, you started your journey running only in the confines of your garden, afraid of others seeing you and judging you and now you're running out, in the daylight, with all the other runners and not giving a damn about what others think (and you ran 8k!!!). You've come a long way baby 😊. Yes, we are runners! And we're here for the long haul! No January joggers here!

We are runners! Too right! Thank you for your kind words, we are all doing an amazing job, I can't believe what you juggle to get your training done. Full of inspiration and admiration! :)

There are loads more joggers around here at the moment aswell. I keep pointing them out to my husband "See, there's another new year's resolution jogger"! Saw a guy outside with a skipping rope yesterday "See, you never see anyone doing things like that mid-December. Another new year's resolution!".

You are doing really well!

We shall watch the decline of the beginners and not finishers, with interest :)

Well done, a grand run! Great distance too!

Maybe those percieved JJ s are just like you, ie running regularly, you just dont normally run at the time they do.

Mmmm maybe they think you are a JJ.

Perhaps we all need bibs that say..... i run regularly, thanks for being interested

Thanks. Yes, I thought all that myself, especially me looking like a JJ, that's far more likely!! A mis-matched bag lady rather than all high tech stuff. I like the idea of a bib! 'I look like I don't know what I'm doing, but actually I'm doing ok' would be mine! :)

brilliant, brilliant! Love your journey and so happy for you! 8K! Dodging the JJs! There's no way you look like one - all the new years resolutioners must be huffing and puffing and you're casually running an 8K.

Thanks icklegui....I'm hoping it will last and I won't crawl back in my shell. Plenty of huffing and puffing that morning! Not my best run but got through it. I like the idea of a casual 8k though.... 'oh, I just popped out and did 8k'.... One day, one day!! :)

Wow, that's brilliant, what a great distance. And great that you've managed to get out "in public" and run proud.

Well done. :-)

Thanks you are kind! It's fun the individual journey we all go through and how they differ. I'm glad to be closer to normal, like everyone else!
