I did it! Finally Graduated

Having not run for a week due to a cold, I planned to complete W9R3 today (Sunday morning). I thought this might have been scuppered yesterday, when I had a slight knee problem. I occasionally suffer from what a casualty Dr informed me is caused by issues with my knee cap failing to move back into place, causing my knee to lock and bepainful to straighten. I know how to cure it, by extending my leg out to the side, whilst still on the floor (usually happens when I've knelt or squatted on floor) but this was awkward being I was out at shops, whilst visiting daughter at university.

Fortunately, I restored it to normal that evening, once back at my daughter's halls.

So around 8:00 this morning, I woke, deciding if it was chucking it down as they'd predicted, I'd wait till later or go tomorrow. Grey and cloudy but no rain, so after letting my brain wake up, I pulled on my gear and headed out the door with MJ for our final date.

The first 5 mins was hard, I sill have the last remnants of a cough and initially, I thought this is going to be difficult. However, after several internal conversations with my inner gremlins, things settled down. Annoyingly, thinking it'd be cold, I'd worn one of my jerseys, I was getting hot but didn't want to affect my rhythm by removing it.

Eventually the 30 mins was over, I'd done it, my graduation run over. What now?

I had mixed emotions, pleased I'd completed C25K but now it's up to me to keep this up? Think I might have a few more dates with MJ, before I go it alone.

On route home, I spotted a woman running round the village park/sports field, checking her sports watch. Ooh, I thought possibly a fellow C25K? I stood, watching for a few mins, willing her on.. I wanted to go in, ask her if she was doing C25K and did she want a running buddy. However, I didn't want to put her off or make her feel uncomfortable. So I watched a while but when I thought she spotted me, I thought I'd better make myself scare and head home to reward myself with bacon and egg! But part of me wanted to go back and say "hi, well done! How's it going?" Maybe I will, if she's there next time.

Anyway, thank you to everyone on here for all the encouragement and support, and good luck to all those yet to graduate or just setting out on your running journey. You can do this and will feel great in the process, both mentally and physically.

Thank you, I’ll take a look. Don’t think I can leave MJ behind just yet though

No he is a difficult guy to dump. Mr Smooth is still regularly dated by me. Next hit date Tuesday....🔥😜

Indeed, I watched him on TV the other day on a Usan Bolt documentary which I’d recorded and kept thinking, ‘there’s my running buddy’.

in reply to Spinning_22

It's funny it does seem as though we know him....

Well he’s been with us through all our running ups and downs, willing us to succeed. You almost don’t want to let him down! Mad isn’t it, or I am!

in reply to Spinning_22

Nope we're not, that's exactly how I feel, which is why my run reminders say Get your trainers on and run says Mr Smooth ..... that's how bad it is!

What app do you use for run reminders?

in reply to Spinning_22

Just the basic apple reminder app on the iPhone. It's clunky but I set up three different ones for each day and it works...it gets me out of bed.

Thank you, it gives you a real sense of achievement.

I think Park Run will probably be the next logical step.

Thank you, I will try. Up till now, I’ve had completion of C25K and graduation souring me on.

I’ve run before then let things slide so hopefully I won’t this time.

Well done!!!

Keep Mr Smooth for a bit I reckon, I know I plan to ☺️

You should definitely try and catch the fellow runner's eye and have a quick chat.

Thank you.

Probably would be good to chat, most runners I’ve seen in the village look more elite than my stage.

Thank you 😊 , although I might not see her again. Should’ve done it today I suppose but it would’ve meant going into the park and either running after her or waiting for her to come back to top of field, either of which I thought might have concerned her!

Of course the other theory is that she was a very experienced runner, doing timed laps of the field and not at all interested.
