I want to run again

I have graduated last year and feel do proud about it. Unfortunately I have given up running in August and put on 6 kilos. Autumn has been very difficult, going through ménopause and feeling sad mots of the time. Needless to say that I had no energy at all, not talking about motivation. How can I get over this? Should I start the whole program again? Thank you all .

I am doing it again after being unable to run for about 18 months. I started back on week 3 but I found it quite easy, and so was week 4. I did a little test on Friday and managed to run for a full 30 minutes quite comfortably, but I'm using a treadmill this time as running outdoors is too much impact for me and I'm plagued with Achilles tendinitis if I do.

Well.. you know how great the programme is... :) Welcome back :)

My advice? Why not be kind to yourself and just trickle through it again...:)

You have had a horrid and rough time. :) Big hug.

So ,because you know what is coming, you don't have to put any pressure on yourself and nine weeks, could take you very slowly and steadily towards the Spring:)

Better days are coming and it could be a fun and enjoyable return journey, with you just going at your own pace, supported by the lovely friendly folk on here :)

I think trickling through sounds a very good way forward, then if you have a run where you think 'I feel like doing more than that' you can always fast forward a bit, or if a week is hard going you can tread water for a couple of runs. It's such a good programme for building running up safely.

Sounds like running could be exactly what you need? Give the programme a go again but, like Alipru says you might find that because you have a base level of fitness now you might move through the programme more quickly than you did the first time. Give it a go, running is so good for the mind as well as the body. :)

Running is a great way of improving mood and I'm pretty convinced it's a great way of getting hormones sorted out (haven't got the medical proof for that though!). Many of us feel miserable when the days get shorter and everything is dark, gloomy, cold and uninviting. But you do feel better if you get out, even in the cold, wet gloom. So get out there, try week 1 and if it's easy move on to W2 and so on till you find a level which challenges you. Spring is coming and now is the perfect time to get back into it. Good luck and keep posting!
