Tried a 4k run today.....

.....but my breathing was all over the place.

Started out well, trying a different start to my route so I went round in a big circle (with no short cuts, so I could have to do 5k including warm up and cool down walks!). Felt quite brave - running along a main road!! (usually stick to the estate or park where less people can see me!) Got to 2k, still feeling good, then my breathing started to get a little difficult. Tried to focus on breathing in through nose and out through mouth, but it was getting harder, so I decided to walk for a bit. Breathing wasn't slowing down so took a few puffs of ventolin and walked until it felt normal again. Ran for a bit more until I went round a corner and the wind quite literally took my breath away!! So walked for a but more (with a bit more ventolin) before managing to run the last 1/2 k.

Not sure what happened really - not cold today, so wasn't the cold air. Maybe it was the traffic fumes from the main road? Maybe I'm coming down with something? Maybe I'm still not over the various coughs/colds I've had? (although I managed 30 mins without any problem on Thursday) But the first time I have really had to use my inhaler while out since about week 2.... :(

Sounds like a tough one. I hope you're resting now.

I had a tough run this morning, maybe it's just a difficult running day today. We'll both be better next time. 🤞🏽

Fingers crossed for both of us! :)

Still you got out for a run Cookie so that's got to be good 😊. I read somewhere that all this fog is bad for runners as its been a bit like smog. It's cleared in my area but maybe there's still a bit around in yours? I'm sure the next run will be perfect 😊

There wasn't any noticeable fog - but it has been a bit murky the last couple of days. (I'm not sure my next run will be perfect, but we'll see what happens ;) )

O we all have those days that just don't seem to go too well but give yourself a big pat on the back for getting out there & more importantly continuing 😊Hope you had a nice soak in the bath & feet up as you deserve some"couch" time. Well done for going out running 😊

Probably still a lingering lurgy monster...I keep thinking I feel okay.. and normal( well as normal as I ever get )..then have a coughing bout!

I am hoping for a small post lurgy jogette on Tuesday. Hope I do as well as you.

Well done for getting out there, running so well, even with your breathing problems, and braving the big, wide, watching world too :)

I'm due an asthma review (which I will try and book for half term) so will talk to the nurse then. She's very good as asthma management. I suspect you're right and I still have the tail end of a lurgy.....:(

Good luck with your jogette! I will hopefully be going out again on Tuesday too :)

No rhyme or reason to it sometimes. Well done for running along the road though - I love hearing about people getting more and more confident running where people can see them! :)

I'm not particularly bothered about what people think - unless they are runners (and that road is used by lots of runners!!)!!!!!

Running along the main road where there are more people is definitely brave! :)

I find the breathing a pain at times...it gets in the way of my running 🙂 I think some days are easier than others when it comes to the breathing...sounds daft huh but there are some days where I just don't seem to get enough air in my lungs no matter how deep I breathe....well done on getting out there though and giving it a good go and with orrible things called 'other people' around too 🙂

I think asthma's just like that. Sometimes it just appears for no apparent reason. But maybe you were going a bit fast or something? I've never mastered breathing through my nose while running so don't even try now.

I was wearing my buff over my mouth at parkrun and a friend shouted that I looked like a cowboy and had I shot anyone yet! It helps with the cold air though. :)

I nearly always wear my buff, but it was quite mild in comparison to how it has been recently, maybe I misjudged not wearing it to start with....

I'm also wondering if my asthma is worse in the mornings, as I don't seem to struggle as much in the evenings......something else to discuss at my asthma review!! (Still a bit tight/coughing today so obviously set something off!!) 😥😟
