Rain and wind...

Okay, so I'm slipping behind schedule. I've been lucky so far, I've lost minimum time due to weather conditions. I've managed to sneak out between storms. But now I'm on Week 7 run 2, but haven't done run 2 because of icy streets in the morning and rain in afternoon. I'm not afraid of weather -- but I run in an old-school cotton sweat suit. Which would soak up the rain and weigh a ton...then the wind would turn me into a big frozen potato-sicle. I've got rain gear for when I go hiking, but I can't imagine running in it.

What do you wear in the rain? Brands and/or material it is made of will be most helpful. I'm not very knowledgeable about sports gear.

Thanks,

po-jo

I wasn't knowledgable about sports gear either - I just wear Lycra running leggings, a vest top and a running jacket - all from H&M which has a great sports section - so nothing specialist or expensive but they work a charm in the rain :)

Thanks rewi. I'll look into H & M. I wasn't even sure where to go looking for reasonably priced decent gear. I hate shopping when I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. Now I've got places to go looking and an idea of what to get. :)

Cheers!

I had the same problem because i started last April and ran in a short sleeve t-shirt and three quarter length running leggings.

Was struggling with a light fleece during the winter and took to the treadmill for a bit. BUT NOW

a lovely long sleeve lightweight running

jacket (ron hill) which i wear over my t shirt. Its windproof but breathable so you don't get hot either. And its got a breast pocket on the outsude for my mp3 so i dont have to wear an armband anymore..

Plus Just bought full length running leggings as my legs have been a bit cold on the warm up walks. I think guys can get away with these too if they wear really thin shorts over the top.

Might as well invest in some gear having got to week 7 you obviously enjoy running and will carry on to graduate and beyond.

Happy shopping..

P.S running socks are brilliant too with cushioning in the right places.. :)

Thank you Jan. Your input is much appreciated. I forgot all about running socks...all this new gear! They didn't have these things (specialized gear) when I was a kid. LOL

I'll look into Ron Hill -- I don't know any good brand names, so that is most helpful. And the mp3 pocket sounds good, because I have to listen to Lara or I'll never make it. I'm afraid about the leggings...like I'm dressed as a "real runner" but I jog at sloth speed. So I'm not really a runner. But maybe...maybe it'll give me a boost: Dress like a runner - and you are a runner!

thanks again.

May the wind always be at your back.

Cheers!

I've bought my running gear from sports direct they seem to have a half decent selection that's good value made by karrimor.

I wear woolly hat, woolly gloves, running tights (haha), a long running sleeved top and a zip up running jacket.

But when I'm out in the rain I wear a lightweight waterproof jacket (like a pack a mac).

Today I wore a small rucksack with the waterproof in it in case it rained, it was handy to put the hat and gloves into when I got really warm.

Thanks Bob! I will look into Sport Direct running clothes.

I got a belt there when I first started, in the hopes that I'd get to the kind of mileage that I'll need to carry water. LOL

good idea about the rucksack too.
