I was trying to decide which run to do today whilst finishing the washing up.. when I saw a huge patch of bright blue sky and the sun was out..
Right I thought, no time to waste so quickly got changed and set up my strava and out the door. I decided to do stepping stones but on my other route with the climb and steep slope in. This would be my fourth time doing it, but I found speed a bit short on Monday.
Warm up walk took me off the estate and across the main road then off we go 150bpm. I was finding this a bit quick to start out with last week, but today felt a bit bumpy and almost too slow, but soon got settled. Running past the bus stop then past the golf course I was expecting to feel my usual five minute 'difficult bit', but no I was fine today. Arms swinging at 90 degrees, chest open head up...
Start up the gentle incline still with golf course on my right. Pass a man with a Jack Russell and we smile and say hello.
A couple of horses cropping grass in the next field as l head up past a few houses and dodge a recycling bin left on the pavement.
There it is ahead the steep slope... luckliy Laura tells me we have two more mins of this track before we increase our pace so I dig in and manage it. At the top immediately have to cross a busy road. (There is an island) but nip across quick today no problem. A flat bit still by the road then just as we get to 155bpm I turn down a lane that slopes gently down, and its lovely. Some big old houses down here and stepping stones across the lawn to Mrs Partridges (where my daughter went for pre-school ) its funny how we still only ever call teachers Mr or Mrs so and so....
never by first name. .
Up the alley and into the agricultural college. Have to negotiate some mucky straw on the path as I pass two LLamas watching me curiously. Yes Llamas they have an exotic animal area where students learn animal husbandry(?)
Just see one small Rhea (could be an emu)
but its chilly now and the others are inside their shed.
Then it starts to hailstone on me ouch! I turn my head out of the wind. This new jacket seems to be great though.. im still quite warm and dry. On the flat over the speed bumps then turn down the hill. There are usually lots of sheep and horses in the big field to my right but i don't notice today because of the sleet. Dodge the puddles then past the tractors that live
in the sheds, but its 3.30 and college is almost over for the day. I do pass some students being instructed in tree surgery and they are standing up in the empty branches of a big tree with ropes and harnesses.
Out the gate at the bottom of the college and back across the main road. Laura tells me we will be upping tempo for the last five minutes..and hey its stopped raining.
Pick up the pace and realise I feel quite good. No aches in my lower legs breathing is even and normal so get into the swing.
Dance with me dddd dance with me says the track. I quite like it. Past the bus stop now with a queue of students waiting and on to the next one.
Laura tells me i have 30 seconds left and can see the finishing post. Yes there it is the bus stop... i slow down and turn back the way i have come...
On my right over the fields i see a rainbow up against the purple sky....
Just as Laura is saying savour the momment... aaah it felt like my rainbow.
Thought i would post my run today as i havent done that yet... I don't have the same poetic touch as some of the great writers on here. (You know who i mean)..
But i thought you might like to hear about my run in the sun and sleet with a rainbow ending....
