Just an update following my appointment with the physio this morning...
I was a little worried that I'd done something drastic as my ankle was getting steadily worse instead of better despite not running for 11 days now.
Anyway after much examining, poking, prodding, twisting, pushing and pulling (him) and standing, balancing, stretching and hopping (me) the conclusion is that I have tendonitis.
After a short burst of ultra sound and massage I came away with exercises to do and instructions not to run until after my next appointment in 3 weeks time. He'll let me know then when I can restart the program
On one hand I'm glad that its nothing too serious but on the other hand frustrated at the setback.
I'm also worried that it means I wont be ready for the GN10K in July!!
Anyway guys thanks for all the support through my daft questions and wingeing
Hopefully I can get back on track soon

It is so frustrating, isn't it Debs? Take it gently when you ease back into the running. Now is a good time to get a couple of books on running, choose some new music to run to and generally pamper yourself. I think if you do your physio exercises and ease your way back in, giving thought to how you can keep your ankle protected, you should be fine for the run. I've read that after an injury, you should start with 10 minutes and increase by 2 min each run so long as you are pain free. Any trouble and you go back to the run before. That might be overly cautious but a good safe beginning. I think I'd try 10, 12, 15, 20, 25,30. It would only take 2 weeks and you could monitor whether there is any difficulty with the ankle, as you progress.
I've had an ongoing ankle injury that was diagnosed as retrocalcaneal bursitis. Alas, mine didn't respond to rest from running, but I did have a corticosteroid injection in it this week and that seems to have been like a magic wand. I am itching to get out on it again, but under strict instructions not to for two weeks.
I hope yours gets better without more intervention though!
