Confused.!!

Hello all.

I could do with some ideas, suggestions, whatever., here's why.....

I started the c25k around may last year and graduated after approx 11 weeks, happydayz..

I then continued to train a couple of times a week (sometimes three) and was getting my 5k times just under 35mins, I thought not too bad considering I'm 46 and hadnt run for 30years.

Around mid December, work commitments, Xmas, new year, illness etcetera meant I dint start back training until about 3 weeks ago.

I am a realist, so for one minute I never thought I would be anywhere near my fitness level in December. However I was pleased that although I enjoy my food and drink I had only put on 3 and half pounds In the couple of months I wasn't training.

Here's the confusion.....

As I say, I started back training 3weeks ago and have completely packed the booze, sweets, crisps and chocolate and yet I haven't lost a pound.!!

Yes I feel fitter, my food portions have not gotten any bigger and my wife reckons on the beer, wine etc I have cut back a minimum of 10000-12000 calories a week and yet I've lost no weight.!!

Any ideas, please..

What about other measurements? Trousers feeling less tight around your middle?

How often do you weigh yourself and do you change the time of day? I can vary in weight over 4lb depending on what time of day I weigh. Even weighing at the same day, I can vary up to 2lb from one day to the next. 3 weeks isn't long. It can take some time for the results to start to show. However, the key thing is that you feel fitter and that you are back taking some exercise again. Make the most of that. The weight thing will come in it's own time.

Your metabolism needs to catch on. It will, providing you keep watching the weight. I know you say about the booze but you have to make sure you don't compensate for the lack of booze by eating more sweet stuff, which is so very easy to do. Portion control is important if you want to lose weight as is healthy eating. Just by cutting out junk food and cutting down/stopping drinking should see your weight really start to shift. Running will help that for sure

Dieting, like running, takes time to develop. You have to get into the routine of it but things will happen. Maybe not as quick as you'd like. Just hang in there. Keep doing the right things and you will see it start to shift. Patience!

If my weight goes up and sticks I keep a food diary to see where the problem lies. I usually find the answer and then can do something about it. I switch my carbs around and only have high carb days if I'm putting the miles in. If not, I reduce my spuds/bread/pasta. Switch to wholewheat and wholegrain versions of rice, bread and pasta as they're better for you and more nutritious. You'll wring more energy out of those choices.

Try using MyFitnessPal.com for a few weeks and actually look closer at the meals you are eating. While you might have reduced out the Wine, Beer etc, if you are eating fatty foods, or not getting enough liquids your system might well just want to hang on to what you are eating. Try taking on more water too to help flush out your system, and the old favorites of Bran and Prunes to flush it even more. Keep going though and give it a few more weeks and if nothing changes then look to a nutritionist to see if there is anything else you can do.
