There's just been an interesting piece on the local BBC East Midlands news about the need for/shortage of guides for blind triathletes. What a fulfilling thing to be able to do - respect to those who do it.

Paratriathlon
wow...what an amazing role....
My hubby does that. As a result of that he has a trophy for coming second in the ladies' section of a triathlon (because the guide doesn't "count" as far as category is concerned). Triathlon in question was running, plus tandem plus kayak in the grounds of Verseilles.
Something for everyone to be aware of. Mostly when you see two people running side by side, they are just two people running side by side. But they might be a blind runner plus guide, in which case they will have some sort of "lead" running between them (hubby and his partner use a shoe-lace). Anyway, better to go round than try to go through !
If you're interested, your local RNIB branch can probably hook you up with someone who is looking for a partner. (If you want something really hard-core, there is also tandem mountain biking...)
Thanks for posting. What a wonderful thing to support. I'll be getting in touch to see if I can help in anyway. Rather selfishly, I'm thinking how cool to get a training partner That said, they would probably be a lot fitter than me
Hubby started out running with a friend around his own age, but it really got to the point where the other guy was dragging him along, and he was struggling. So he now guides our friend's 20something daughter - but who is also getting a bit good for him, he says (she runs for fitness but is really into cross-country skiing). In races, blind runner must cross the finish line first. Its a really fun and sociable world.
That's amazing and something to aspire too! Thanks for letting us knw about it!
