I have a long way to go....

It looks like i will be able to do the "We Run Santiago" race, i only have a month to go so i need to get serious about training. So with my old insoles in my new trainers and a cool day i decided to battle the race route (below), at the moment i am working on doing it backwards as it close to home. Today I managed to get from the 10km to 6km marker, I am just going to increase the distance along the route each week and hope for the best. I will need to have little stops along the way but I am ok with that. Today it felt like everyone was running this route and zooming up the continuous incline. I might end up being last in this race but for me if i can get to the finish line that will be great.

As its November now its only going to get warmer so its going to super early runs from now on to avoid the heat. Plus i can't say how great brooks 42k foot talc is - it keeps your feet nice and dry. I have also discovered that taking 200ml of powerade (other brands are available) on todays run really helped, always thought those drinks were gimmicks but now i understand the benefits. I will however stick to water for short and flat runs.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

So this is a 10k yes? Sounds like a great challenge with the incline & all, & you sound like you are approaching it sensibly physically & mentally. What kind of time will the race be run? Just wondering if it makes sense to train at some point in the heat so you are prepared..? Not having done anything like this I have no real clue though!!! Good luck with it all x

Thank you I can only go one speed up that hill and its slow, very very slow and i am planning to increase my distance up hill 0.5km each week and hope that i have enough in the tank for the last 1km uphill climb.

That's a toughie Vix.

Strange to hear about it getting hotter when it's getting colder here (although it has been remarkably mild here the past few days).

Good luck with the training :-) xx
