In January 2013 I started the C25K program and immediately did that thing that most runners do - I fell in love with running and wondered why I hadn't been doing it all my adult life!
However, I also made some errors in judgement. I started to get a little bit carried away and within about 3 weeks of completing the program I was running 10K - loving my newly discovered level of fitness! I pushed myself to see how far I could go, running 12k, 14k even 18k.
Financial restrictions at the time meant purchasing some appropriate running shoes was not an option for me.
The result of all this meant ......... injury of course.
The same financial restrictions that prevented me purchasing the appropriate shoes also prevented any physio sessions to help me get back on track and ready to run again.
My last run was in September 2013.
Long story short - my injury is now a thing of the past, today is my birthday and my family have teamed up to raise the money to allow me to purchase some "proper" running shoes.
Tonight they will be getting their first outing when I tackle the C25K Week 1 podcast for the second time around.
I'm excited. But also a little bit nervous. I do hope I regain that love affair with running.

I think many of us have gone daft, gone off doing too much too soon and paid the price. I couldn't afford a physio either but time is the great healer isn't it, but it's behind you now and you've learned from it, so you can crack on with renewed vigour I hope

Hoorah, you're back. You can approach C25k with all that knowledge and wisdom acquired from first time around and this time take it steady. The "Too much, too soon" scenario is one that constantly comes up on here and is a timely warning, especially for new graduates, who, if they are like I was, will think they are superhuman. Keep us posted.
Happy Birthday Ashton. What a great birthday pressie! We all know what we need to do but that little devil sitting on our shoulder is always there nagging us to run further, faster, and what do we do? Ignore him of course! We're only human, we're competitive and when we overstretch ourselves we usually pay the price.
The past is over but the future beckons.......

Welcome back and happy birthday! Thanks also for posting this because I think it's a very valuable message and experience. When few of us have ever run, to discover we can is liberating and exhilarating and we can get a bit carried away.

The fact you’ve posted after all this time, suggests you always were going to be running addict and now you have invaluable experience behind you, I hope this time out really works well for you.
