Well done for getting so far! I do all my running on a treadmill. I warm up at 6.5 then run at 8.5 until the last 5 minutes, when I do 9. When I started, I ran at 8, so I've increased my speed gradually. That kilometres, by the way, not mph!

Hi I am on w5 and joined the gym before starting C25k. I warm up at 5.5 and run at 7.5. But I was very nervous on the treadmill to start and it took me a long time to feel confident about running at all. I think you just have to see what speed feels comfortable for you.

I only joined the gym after I graduated and still find it quite different running on the treadmill. Much harder work for me, although it really is a personal preference. Like Jeannie I also warm up at 6.5 and my programme is set to run at various speeds between 8 and 9.5 with different gradients along the way! Good luck

I think you should continue to focus on the time running. Jeannie57's machine speed estimations are reasonably accurate but according to your ability you may have to adjust to suit yourself. I did the whole of the C25K programme on a treadmill progressing to Parkruns and my main activity is now indoor rowing.

For me I started the C25K to get fit not to become a runner which is why I've progressed to indoor rowing competitions. I still run so you may find a sport that you prefer but continue running to compliment your new sport??

Best of luck with the rest of the programme.

Gosh - well done everyone that's replied! I started walking at 5.8 & jogging at 8.5. When I reached Wk 3 I brought both speeds down - the top speed to stop my lungs from bursting & the bottom speed to let me recover. I did wk 5 run 3 at 7 kph. I've sneaked it up to 7.1 for wk 6 run 1 even though Laura had sussed out that I'd want to go quicker. My plan is to inch it up slowly. This was some good advise from a forum member. I'm hoping that getting a rhythm on the treadmill will help me pace myself for outdoors now that the summer's coming. Good luck!

I did the whole thing on the treadmill and graduated last week - now gone back to week 6 run 1 so I could move the whole thing outside! Had my first outdoor run tonight and loved it - although I loved the treadmill and will still use it regularly I think I will stick with outdoors mostly! Good luck!
