C25K is the best discovery ever! Started Week 1 today and have recommended the podcast to my group of 40 Kilimanjaro students at the University of Kent to aid them in their fitness training for their challenge this summer!

Good luck! Kent was my old university .... 30 years ago! From my memory of the campus (it was all at Canterbury then) you could either opt for a nice easy run down to the city ... or a real slog uphill to the campus

Haha, yes indeed! Luckily I am staying in Norwich for a week so I'm easing in with a flat surface. Week two back in Canterbury will be a bit tougher! Which college were toy a member of at Kent uni?

Eliot College for me! I shared a bunk bed room N2N1 in my first year with one shared toilet/shower room in each corrridor. Now I hear it's all en suites .... luxury!

They were bunk bed rooms? My friend had one and it was just really big single room! I was also in Eliot College in my first year, tiny room in the East Wing! It's coming up to UKC's 50th Anniversary event at the moment

Yup bunk beds ... or some people arranged them as twin bed rooms, I think just the end rooms (first and last) in each corridor if they still work like that. Things were tough back then! .... actually I think we had it so much easier ... student grants, no tuition fees.

Haha definitely! Free higher education would be incredible - university sign-up rates have dropped since they introduced the 9K fees

.... got me reminiscing lhr2 :-) We also had free travel! I lived in Herne Bay for 2nd year ... hitchhiked to and from college every day and was able to claim for a bus annual season ticket!

A wee piece of my own trivia is I'm an Honorary Life member of the University Court ... I was Eliot President for a year and happened to have a place on the University Council (college presidents did this by rotation annually and it just happened to be Eliot's turn) The rules were that all members of the University Council were entitled to be members of the court ..... I still have a letter somewhere from the Registrar advising me that I could resign at any time :-)

No way! How funny! I'm in Eliot Committee too as charity Officer and recently we found old note books containing minutes from 1970-1993, including the agenda item which had the Eliot Committee of 1985-86 sending a letter to Mrs Thatcher and FIFA calling them 'fascist scum' for hosting the World Cup at the same time as exams! My Aunty Helen also went to Kent (she was in Darwin) and I think she's commuted in from Herne Bay too- if only we had all these travel and education benefits today!

We spent a LOT of time protesting and occupying, won a few battles but lost the war for your generation of students I'm afraid.

Anyway, back to c25k wish I'd started it back then, enjoy the journey :-)
