Surprised to see Allopurinol mentioned, I used to take this for gout. Don't suffer from it now but how does it help CLL patients ?

That's a good question I'd been wondering about too Barmouth as my husband has used it for gout. Found this explanation which helped me to understand. A bit dated but still as valid;

Very commonly used in high white blood cell count (WBC) patients in the first and second round of treatment to prevent hyperuricaemia. TLS tumour lysis syndrome etc.

High cell turnover can trigger higher Uric Acid levels and gout symptoms.
