CLL Physical Activity and Quality of Life Questionnaire

Hello,

For those who don’t know me, I am Ellie Miles, a PhD student under Dr David Bartlett, investigating CLL/SLL-derived premature frailty and aiming to reduce the symptoms and risk of frailty with exercise training.

Our exercise intervention has been running for one year now, so thank you so much to those who have taken part/shown interest. We are still recruiting until April 2025, so please contact me if you want more information.

Alongside our exercise intervention, I created a questionnaire to collect data on physical activity levels, quality of life, symptoms, and exercise interests (information sheet attached). My goal is to provide information that will hopefully convince oncology teams and general healthcare providers of the need to start prescribing exercise, physical activity and physical assessment upon a diagnosis of CLL/SLL.

I sent this questionnaire out a while back, and we got approximately 60 responses, along with some excellent data, so thank you to those who have already completed it. Following feedback and an interim analysis of the results, we need a few more completed questionnaires to confirm the results and publish the data, so someone suggested I post the information for the questionnaire on this platform :).

We would really appreciate it if those who haven’t completed the questionnaire would please fill it out using the link below. It is a separate study from the exercise intervention, so anyone can fill it out :). It’s all online, and you should be able to do it from your phone, tablet, or computer. Additionally, I have made some minor changes to the last questionnaire to hopefully make it more user-friendly.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in contact,

Best wishes,

Ellie Miles, BSc (Hons)

I have significant Prolia related bone damage. Is that type of pre-existing condition an exclusion factor for your study? One way or another your study sounds well worth while. Good for you. I hope it produces useful results.

Hello, It isn't specifically on our exclusion criteria, however, we would need clearance from a healthcare professional to say that they are happy for you to take part in our study :)

Ellieemiles,

Have you any data on patient who have been advised to stop exercising due to the cardiac side effects of the various CLL medications?

Ellieemiles in reply to Identiy

Hello, we don't currently. We have a few individuals in the study with cardiac problems (AFib, problems with aorta, reduced ejection fraction), so we may have some data over the coming months. Everyone can exercise; the intensity, duration; frequency may just need to be adapted depending on the condition. There are highly qualified exercise physiologists and cardiac specialist personal trainers who will know how to exercise certain conditions and take the correct precautions :)
