CLL treatment for commobidities

My husband was diagnosed with CLL in January 2020, he has remained on W&W since then, he does however take meds for hypertension and high cholesterol, if when the time comes for treatment, is there meds/treatment for his CLL despite his other conditions and could this be a complication in his treatment??

I was on medication for hypertension and another co-morbidity when I started treatment. It wasn’t an issue and they did not interact adversely. No need for concern. Any contraindicated meds would be taken into consideration but it’s not usually an issue.

HiI was on hypertension and cholesterol drugs at diagnosis (stage 4) and went straight to treatment, no issue. Interestingly after my O+I cycles my hypertension disappeared so i have been off the hypertension drugs for 2 years.

unlikely there will be a problem. Medication like Calquence normally list other drugs not to take particularly PPIs but otherwise all ok. I am on same medications as your husband as are most older men

Depends on the treatment that is given. I was on O+V. I had been on Verapamil for years to treat an irregular heartbeat. It would have interfered with the Venetoclax. Coincidentally, it started lowering my BP too much a few weeks prior to starting treatment and I was switched to something that did not interact. Verapamil is a moderate CY3PA inhibitor which could have increased the concentration of Venetoclax which can be dangerous.

Review all of your husband’s current medications with his specialist before deciding on treatment. And be sure to consult with the prescribing physician before he makes any changes to his existing meds. Also read all of the drug interactions with whatever treatments he is considering. Sometimes physicians miss things.

Enjoy the watch and watch time. That could last for 10 years or more. It is good to get educated but try not to worry about the “what ifs”. I continued to take my cholesterol medication while I was in treatment. I think most people stay on their meds. The Dr would be the best person to ask.
