Is thyroid hormone replacement allowed to take when you are on a BTK inhibitor?

Hello, beautiful community.

My thyroid replacement therapy is finally stable after years of struggling and I'm afraid the BTK inhabitor can affect either treatment?.

The new challenge is, that, I'll start treatment for Lymphoma/CLL. As you know, here is a guideline for not taking some medications like any anti-inflammatory medications and some hormone replacement therapy in the information provided. I'll check with the pharmacist but would like to get your feedback too. I'm wondering if anyone in this group is under treatment with the new generation of BTK inhibitor/Brukinsa/ Zanubrutiniband is still able to take levothyroxine and T3 with no change in thyroid blood results.? Thanks for your help.

I have been taking Imbruvica with Synthroid for a long time with no issues.

It is the best to check with your oncology pharmacist for any drug interactions. Avoid your local pharmacists since they have no clues about cancer drugs.

Thanks for the reply. Great idea to talk and ask all the related questions to the pharmacist at the special pharmacy.

Hi sunsetssr,

I took levothyroxine with Imbruvica for 41/2 years without any problems, and the oncologist at the time said it was fine. I also took it while on Venetoclax. I always check online to see what medications, vitamins or foods might impact the cancer pills.

I was long on thyroid replacement therapy - first Armourthyroid and now Synthroid. I was on Acalabrutinib for 5 years. The only thing I changed was making sure I stopped BIOTIN (which we often take for our nail damage from CLL/SLL treatment) especially before thyroid labs because it can alter the lab results. I did have to change from Armourthyroid to Synthroid at one point. My thyroid labs started spiking and falling for no apparent reason and we were chasing the correct dosage after years of it being stable. My endocrinologist felt it had to do with inconsistencies in Armourthyroid production and said she had seen it in non-CLL/SLL patients so I do not think it was related to my CLL/SLLtreatment. Everything has stabilized now that I switched to Synthroid. Wishing you the best.

I am on Acalbrutinib for 1 year

I have also been on levothyroxin after having my cancerous thyroid removed.

No issues

Best to you!

Dear Sunsetssr, I have been on synthroid when I had my thyroid removed in 1991, Dx with CLL in 2002 treated with Bendemustine, Imbruvica, Venteclax, and am now on Zanubrutnib. I have never had any issues with any of the treatments. however, my dosage has gone up a little from 125 to 137.

Thanks so much for the detail. Your response is very comforting in this difficult time.
