Has anyone been diagnosed with sleep apnoea that s been connected to SLL?My husband was diagnosed with SLL aged 3 5following a biopsy of a enlarged lymph node in his neck.He s been on W and W since. He is much more fatigued recently and has enlarged cervical nodes and I read a BMJ article about this causing sleep apnoea. He certainly sounds like he has sleep apnoea and has disturbed sleep. Thanks

Hi tobyronnie,

Since your husband has enlarged nodes, it would not be unusual for the lymph nodes known as tonsils and adenoids to also be enlarged (it happened to me and gave me problems sleeping and breathing).

You may want to have his hematologist, GP and/ or an ENT huddle to decide whether to treat the sleep apnea or the SLL.

For me starting treatment for CLL/SLL solved the problem in a few weeks. Any of the BTK inhibitors (Ibrutinib / Imbruvica; Acalabrutinib / Calquence; or Zanubrutinib /Brukinsa) should reduce the nasal / sinus nodes quickly. Venetoclax may also reduce the nodes but the ramp up time & effort may be longer to get relief. But this should be reviewed by a CLL expert doctor that is familiar with your husband's full medical history and is able to provide medical treatment advice.

My hubby started treatment in June dor exactly this reason. He has always had "bad sinuses" and apnea and has been on W&W for about 6 years. His blood work has never been anything other than "normal". But the last 6 mos his breathing definitely took a turn for the worse along with his hearing. We didn't realize it was the SLL causing the greatest part of the issue because the visible lymph nodes were not excessive and only grew intermittently. A Ear,Nose and Throat specialist could only see the extent of it during surgery. Within one day of treatment with Gazyva, we could see changes and he started to improve. In our case, there were no glaring symptoms to start treatment but the constellation of everything together made "early" treatment a huge relief.
I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea last year and began using the cpap. Then in September, I found that I have SLL. Since treatments (Calquence and Gazyva), I have stopped snoring. Maybe my swollen neck lymphs were causing the apnea-like symptoms?
But, I am still using the cpap, until my sleep Dr. says to stop.
