How safe are we with Evusheld ?

I just got my Evusheld shots and hope to be able to rejoin some of the groups I give workshops to. They are vaccinated. When I asked my oncologist , her replacement ( my oncologist is on vacation) said I should judge if I feel confident if I can be there masked but in closed room. And not get sick. That’s a nothing answer. For those of you with the Evusheld do you have experience being with a group of people masked of course but not getting sick ? So far no covid and my workshops start next week. Thanks very much.

Well, I don't have experience being in rooms with potential Covid patients, but I have experience being masked/goggles/gowned/gloved/shoe covers in hospital rooms with patients having other infectious diseases. I didn't catch anything; and part of the procedure was to remove everything in the little anteroom adjacent to the patient room before going back out into the main hospital. So my clothes/shoes didn't have anything on them, and is the basis behind my recommendations that people wanting to keep things like pollen or Covid out of their house, to swap clothes and leave shoes at the front door.

Granted, I wasn't talking much. If you are going to be talking a lot in close proximity, have someone qualified correctly fit any mask you are considering wearing. Wear eye protection, clear goggles (many are very attractive IMO) or at least coat your eyes with thick moisturizing eyedrops ahead of time. Outside of a hospital or clinic, very few people are wearing their masks correctly. I can see gaps, so they aren't as effective as they could be.

Evusheld is not a 100% guarantee against catching Covid. I had two Evusheld injections and still caught Covid after attending a crowded event. My advice to you is to use every caution rejoining your groups.

Nothing is 100% safe. Evushield is just one of the many possible layers of Swiss cheese between you and a COVID infection. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss...

I have had 4 Moderna Covid vaccinations plus Evusheld..... my attitude is that I am going to try to recapture as much of a normal life as possible. I now shop early morning when stores are mostly deserted (I find 9 AM and 9 PM the best times). I only wear my mask while indoors in a confined area with many people - but avoiding "crowded" indoors all together. I believe you will be just fine. Also, keep in mind that should you develop Covid, Paxlovid is available and it is 95% effective in stopping Covid!

Thank you so much. That's the attitude I want to have too. I just can't stay at home anymore and not work with my beloved Spaniards and Brazilians her. I will do what you recommend and you are right, Paxlovid is there.

When I received Evusheld at my CLL specialist's appointment he advised me to not take exposure risks, even with Evusheld. I use N95's inside and also outside. I find a good N95 mask so much easier to breath in than the surgical masks. I went on a fossil dig with a geology group, where I wore a N95 for 5 hours in the sun, using rock hammers and carrying buckets of rocks with complete comfort a few weeks ago. When I drank water I walked a distance from the group, upwind, before lifting mask to drink.

Safer than without Evusheld. Not as safe as having a properly functioning immune system with a good covid vaccine response. For me, I would say there is a big gap between those two things.

Many people who received Evushled have been diagnosed with covid after Evushled, but I don’t know of anyone that was hospitalized with covid after Evushled.

So covid with Evushled on board should be mild.🤞
