Obtaining Evusheld

Finally. I go to a major cancer center and have been struggling to obtain evusheld. I am on a list, in a lottery, etc. Yesterday, I aksed my oncologist if he would send an order if I found it. I used the site obtained here and called several big hospitals. Some said it was reserved for their own patients, a few had none, and a few didn't know what I was talking about and where to send me. I finally decided to call a little small town hospital, St Johns, in Leavenworth, KS. After the order was sent, talking to a nurse in charge who was so kind, they called me back today, and I am happy to report, I have recieved my injections. The lesson is keep trying, keep calling. It wasn't enough to have a written prescription from my doctor, which I had; they needed a faxed order. Some of these little places are the way to go.

I asked my GP about Evusheld and she said it is being reserved in Maryland for transplant patients and those on chemo.

True, and I am still in treatment. But it is also going to waste in some places

I think I'd skip the GP if you want the doses. Just locate it (as OP did) and then call your oncologist and ask them to fax the order to the correct location. Good luck!

This is how we got it for my husband. Our smaller town hospital had 'plenty' and told us what we needed to do to obtain it. When we called oncologist office (CLL specialist in Nashville) they were happy to fax orders but somewhere along the way the communication of all of that was lost and we never got the notification to come in. Well, I called back the the helpful local infusion center manager I previously spoke with and he ended up calling and talking directly to husband's CLL doc and was fine with a verbal order for the Evusheld. My husband got it the next day. The infusion center manager at our hospital said he was having several patients from the bigger cancer centers come there for it b/c I guess they've used up much of it in the larger metro area. We were very grateful for the help from the local staff!

Interestingly , it was my GP who recommended I get Evushield… The hematologist was all for it after I asked but getting it was more difficult….Many people answering the phone did not know what it was … …Finally got a knowledgeable nurse who checked the paperwork , and followed through …..

BTW , I did have a side effect - with weakness and pain in both arms for a few days ….

Yes, many didn't know, and the small place I went was not using theirs as they are not a cancer hospital.

Did you get the shots in your arms? I have only heard of people getting it in the buttocks.

In the buttocks, yes. It didn't hurt at all, and I am not sore today.

Got one in each arm - No immediate reaction

Two days later sore arm - couldn’t raise my arm over my head - cleared up within a day and then same symptoms in the other arm which lasted a few days and then cleared - was told that there may be side effects - that the arms may hurt and feel heavy -

Took Tylenol for a day or two for the pain and then it resolved …..

Hope the Evushield worked!

Your story mirrors mine. I go to KU and was told about their "lottery". After scouting around I found a supply in the Ottawa County Health Clinic, not as close as Leavenworth, but still only a 3-hour drive and received my shots two weeks ago. Everyone involved was kind and cooperative.

I am so glad you found it; and yes, my hosptial is KU. Happy it worked out, but sad we have to search ourselves.
