Good Morning. I have been taking 600mg of Venclexta daily since November and my weight is down about 10 pounds from 168 to 158. I wish to gain the weight back. Is anyone experiencing the weight loss? Also, does anyone know of a good diet so that I can gain the weight back.

Thanks

Rosa

Most are ramped up from 25 mg to 400 mg over a 5-week period. I am not aware of patients on 600 mg. Venclexta weigh variation may be things not tasting as good or water filling the tummy and not being as hungry. If it continues check with your doctor.

Hi Rosa / brooklyn7672,

-

I wish I had your problem ( I guess the grass is always greener....) I had to cut back my calorie intake about 10% when I started Venetoclax, and still after 5.5 years I have trouble every winter especially over the holidays. But that is immaterial.

I see that we had a discussion on the same subject a few months back

- did any of those replies help you?

Yes me too I put on weight after 2 years on veneteclax and prior to taking it though I was not well I looked pretty good -now I have to watch what I eat -I am pretty sure I lost muscle tightness because of veneteclax particularly around the tummy -I think if weight is being lost something else is going on

I’ve put on weight, too (Venetoclax since June/July), but mine is mainly because of stress. Since being locked down I have lost what little self confidence I had and I find it hard to cope with any social interaction. Chrisx

Every diet that contains a mix of starches and fat with some protein is weight gain inducing. The trick is to smuggle in lots of calories while maintaining a small volume of the ingested food. Example would be a meal consisting of fatty meats and white rice. Or potato doused with coconut oil. It is important to make sure that the fats are the healthy kind and the carbs are mostly starches, not table sugar, not fructose. You don't want to gain weight the unhealthy way. Avoid fructose and avoid vegetable based oils. Fatty fish and mashed pumpkins with real butter are okay. Frying anything on linseed oil is not. I'm baking pork knuckles now and we'll have buckwheat with chicken fat as a siding 😄. That is another example of a high calorie but healthy food.

I lost about 15 pounds prior to the diagnosis in Nov. 2019. I have been on 400mg of Venetoclax since August 2021. Finally started to gain some weight back this past December. I eat a normal diet, but eat healthy snacks in-between meals.

Yes, I’ve lost weight on Venetoclax (and am thin to begin with). It caused a reduced appetite for me, plus an aversion to a lot of foods. No advice, just a “me, too.”
