Triclycerides ratio versus HDL ?

janvog profile image

My lipid profile has remained identical since last year, including HDL at 72/73. But triclycerides were 72 last year and now are 65. (I am 87). What does that mean ? And what action if any is necessary ?

Here is a site that gives information about Triglyceride levels: It will be important to keep an eye on your seemingly lowering levels, but at present your level is not dangerous. This site gives you the why's of low triglycerides, so you can talk with your Dr. about what will be safe for you to do in trying keep the levels from dropping further.

I would talk with my Drs. both CLL and PC/GP--It might be helpful to get a consult with a nutritionist also.

I just got a phone call from the nurse of my hematologist today: Your iron stores are low. He wants you to take FOLIVANEPLUSCAP every day instead three times a week, plus VITAMIN D, which also appears low in your test. I am on Imbruvica since three years and my CBC is normal except always slightly low HGB (aenemic). We tried daily FOLIVANEPLUSCAP before and it worked to bring HGB into normal range. - I have real luck to be under the care of a world-class regional cancer-group and a hematologist with two degrees with a first rate caring staff. I got the choice to get labs done every month with immediate revue. This gives me a chance to ask a question. I can also check all labs on the groups portal and sent e-mail. Plus I can read what the hematologist communicates to my primary doctor each time. Unfortunately I do not have luck with primary doctors who lack the time and structure, plus have their organization's CPA (Certified Public Accountant) watching the doctor's revenue share and insurance coverage. Luckily I learned to watch my basic health situation. As for sleep-apnea specialists, negligent treatment: "One size fits all !"

The suggestions made may not work for you, but the issue that is raised by the lowering lipid levels, while not at a critical point, does need to be considered for the long run as something to be watched.

Best wishes as you explore with your Hema/onco or whomever.

In general, low triglycerides are a good indicator. It also looks your HDL is in good shape. I would assume from those numbers that you weigh and BMI are normal. Also, optimal levels of Vitamin D is very important to keep good health. It is involved in many critical immune functions in the body. It should be above 30 ng/ml for best results, but it’s difficult to keep good levels during winter months, that’s why supplementation is so important. Best of health and luck to you

Thank you: You got it right! My result was: VITAMIN D 25-HYDROXY 28 (low) Normal 30-100 .

You seem to be in a good place. If your triglycerides to HDL ratio is less than two (US units) that's ideal. It is called the paleo indicator of health. High triglycerides are a problem. They cause cardiovascular disease in the long run. Most of the population has low HDL and high triglycerides. I used to belong to that group. 6 weeks of low-carb diet fixed the problem. On top of losing 30 lb my ratio became ideal.
