Hi ANA4,-

That is not a test or result I have seen in the past- was it part of a normal blood screen or a special test for COVID-19 vaccination?

I would read the IgM as negative (7.9 is less than 90 )

and the IgG BAU as positive (33.3 is greater than 31.50)

I have done a test also and got a score of 189U/ml. I'm not certain which type of the antibodies were tested for but I believe it was a test for IgG antibodies. yes its much higher than yours but to what extent either of us is protected is unknown. The test is a quantitive not qualitive test so who knows your fewer antibodies may be more effective than my greater number. Its not really much help and concerning travel you should consider the prevalance at your departure and arrival points, and where you will be, what you will be doing. Personally I have decided to avoid all closed in spaces for anything but the briefest of time while the local case rate is elevated. That is flight and train banned for now. Everything has risk though and life is for living. Personally I would not travel purely for leisure, but might for family, but only if cases were low. I would drive before any other means. I say this from a position of not expecting (but also not knowing) that corona virus would kill me but that it may well make me sick for a prolonged time during which I am infectious with possibily longer term effects. It is to be mitigated against as so much is not understood.

Don’t read too much into the IgM result as that level may depend to some extent on how long ago you had your vaccination. IgM antibodies are the initial antibodies produced and decline as IgG antibodies take over. Difficult to know how these results translate into immunity and protection for you.

I had a very low antibody result and I am proceeding as if I am not vaccinated. And as Belfastbees said, I am very aware the possibility of grave illness should I contract the virus. If you must travel, I recommend you get yourself a tight fitting N-95 or KN-95 to wear when you have to be out in public and avoid crowded places, especially if the Delta variant has taken over. It is more than twice as contagious than previous variants. Wishing you well.

Curious you have been given IgM level too.

IgM results from a FIRST encounter with a new virus.

IgG will predominate on subsequent encounters.

The primary response of the immune system is different to the secondary and subsequent infection challenge from a virus. IgG can take some days to get numbers up when confronted by a virus for the first time. The next time - a few hours!

In CLL - while the antibodies are present - (good thing in that it shows the immune system has been triggered...) but does not guarantee full functionality. A vast array of interactions are required to make it work. In many cases in CLL it works well enough most of the time. Thankfully - I have low immunoglobulin after FCR. The price of remission I guess. But I have as yet not got infections of any kind, including bacteria. Maybe cos I am careful, maybe lucky, maybe have good T cells.

Think of an orchestra - for the wow effect - every instrument needs to be in tune and beat perfect. Including the triangle player!

I'll stick my neck out - your immune system has seen the virus or a vaccination before. Hence IgG > IgM.

As lankisterguy and Belfastbees say above - continue to take care. Here in the UK with Delta higher in my area by a factor of 4 than hitherto this pandemic - I am not going to fall at the last hurdle. Thankfully - numbers are starting to fall.

HiThe IgM result is meaningless in terms of covid immunity.

Do you know if the IgG result was to the spike protein or not.?

Also remember antibodies are only part of the immune response. It is possible to have no antibodies , like me, but still have a decent T cell memory to support and fight any covid infection. I have had both Jabs and covid in between jabs.
