Rising Calcium

I know calcium is very very tightly regulated mineral in the body and I know it can't be much out of range without causing some serious problems but I'm just wondering if anybody else has had a rise in calcium? It appears the high end is 10.5 for my lab. I was 10.6 in March and then 10.0 in April and now 11.3. My oncologist was perplexed and didn't think any of my medications were doing it. I take one supplement that I'm going to stop taking just to see you but I'm very worried about this and just wondering if anybody else has had this happen?

Calcium and Magnesium work together in the body. If your calcium levels are high, it may be because your magnesium levels are low. It's worth checking in the first instance.

Thank you. I just checked my magnesium level. It's 2.1 which is right smack in the middle of the normal range. I also take a magnesium supplement for leg cramping.. that was a super good thought though !

If your magnesium levels are OK, then I guess your doc will investigate the most common cause for raised calcium levels, being linked with a thyroid problem.

There's no specific link to CLL that I know of.

How do you feel generally?

Good! I don't have any of the symptoms of higher calcium at this time. I know my dad struggled with calcium levels and kidney stones so I am beginning to wonder if I have that FHH gene, but I know that is rare.

It would be important for you to see your primary care provider (MD,PA, or NP) for discussion of this, a thorough physical exam and additional lab work which should include a parathyroid hormone level.

Yes thank you! I am having this level rechecked in 2 weeks. My parathyroid level was normal 2 days ago. 36
