Weight loss

I forgot to discuss weight loss with my Consultant in my recent telephone call. I am now 53.5k and was probably about 63k before CLL. I am feeling ok otherwise and recent bloods were 137 white count. I am W&W. As a 5’6” female - how much weight should I be allowed to lose before treatment starts? Any ideas?

Good Morning!

10% - an unintentional weight loss of 10% or more is important to tell your Haematology Team. You would appear to have that.

I would suggest you contact your Haemaology Team, CNS or Consultant secretary and let them know.

Your GP would also have a role in this - as there are many causes for wt loss unrelated to CLL.

Wishing you well.

Hi camper

I'm a female almost exactly the same height as you - though here we are now into metrics.

I lost 10 -11 kg over the last year and a half. ( about 4 dress sizes) down. GP was not interested, so I had to ask her to weigh me and record it; Haematology here always weigh everyone but all my bloods were reasonably OK (on Ibrutinib ) so for me there was nothing further they felt it necessary to do.

But I agree about reporting it to relevant medical people.

Good luck. 😊

I never knowingly suffered unexpected weightloss.. except, with steroid+blood thinning treatment for PE..

At that time, a few weeks pre- start of BR (Bendamustine + Rituximab) treatment, my consultant was keen that I gain weight — presumably as a buffer, in case of loss of appetite/nausea/sickness during treatment..

Happily treatment saw very little nausea, so I was lucky.

One year later, with lockdown eating habits.. I have gained far too much weight..

Now 3 weeks in to weight loss regime (low carbohydrates, sensible size meals, maybe 5:2 type diet, ie. 2 days of ~700 calories, 5 days of eating normally) and I have lost 5 Kg.

Talk to your consultant / lead nurse / haematology team.
