What is the situation for shielding, if you have had covid 19, assuming that it was diagnosed by swabbing in the hospital?

Hi my understanding is that everyone would like the answer to that question including the medics. Until we understand if having had the virus gives us immunity and for how long, we just don’t know.

I am no expert just going of what I have read or viewed on TV and this site etc.

Stay safe and well

A friend of mine in Ireland told me that his mother was diagnosed with the virus a few weeks ago. She got over it and tested negative for it twice. Now she has tested positive for it again.

Sorry to hear about your friends mothers experience.

I don’t understand what happened to her or the retesting procedures, so can’t comment on either.

What I can say is that is that we can’t go of one individuals experience.

We will only know the true reality of wether or not you can get it again in time and following the experience of many.

Stay safe and well

Pat, further to Ann's reply, it is also important to know what specific test was used. There is the chance of a false positive, though if the same type of testing kit was used, that might be a more believable result. I've heard that some of the SARS-CoV-2 tests are much more likely to give inaccurate results than others, as they are also sensitive to other coronaviruses. Also following recovery, a positive result may be due to "dead," or inactive, virus components still present in patients' cells.
