I have a question for you. Is there any truth to the Forbes report (attached to HealthUnlocked post 4/13/20) that emergency clinical trials are in place using Calquence for COVID-19 patients on ventilator? If yes, should CLL patients under treatment be concerned about possible shortage of Calquence?

CAD,

I’ll let Dr Koffman answer your question but my take on it is there’s several BTK inhibitors out there that your doc could switch you to if there was a shortage and they’re only talking about the vent patients for a couple of days.

I’m not nervous about that. The virus makes me nervous.

There is no shortage now and the data is very thin. I suspect they can ramp up production if it works. There should not be hoarding as you can't just get it from a local pharmacy and it's expensive. Stay strong, Brian Koffman CLLSociety.org
