Productive Cough is Back.

CLLr and have been treated w/BR early last year.

I had a persistent cough (productive, white/clear) for months and I blamed it on heart meds. (Which were changed) plus Went on a 10 day course of antibiotic that seemed to lessen the cough but it did not elevate it completely. Then about 8-10 days ago the cough stopped. I felt relieved and I felt better than I had in months. I felt normal. BUT Yesterday the cough started up again. I’ve had chest X-rays and all is fine in the lungs.

I heard the term in a post here today, “Cancer of the Immune system”. This recurring infection is proof. Such is life.

Estate, this article might be enlightening, though you also may have found information in this regard. I hope it helps to get your situation sorted. I found it to be of help to me for the nighttime coughing and constant clearing of my throat--and my usually once a day "wet cough".

You and I have run in to some parallels this last year..

My BR treatment began 1st week Jan 19.

I’m just emerging from 7 weeks or more of a wet cough / sticky phlegm difficulty..

..I’d allowed my asthma to get out of control — not needed my inhaler for a long time - perhaps due to immune suppression reaching it’s peak with CLL pre-treatment?

So, between asthmatic (typically dry unproductive cough) and sticky mucus.. things have been very difficult; waking unable to breathe, or coughing and becoming unable to breathe with emerging mucus clogging airways.. briefly until sufficient further coughing..

You mention antibiotics.. Leave the detail to the doctors, but I like specifics;

Me? Amoxicillin 7 days, then Co-amoxiclav 7 days..

And in last 2 days of abx, maybe coincidentally, my cough degree and frequency is lessening and last night I slept :)

Still awoke with breathing difficulties. It has not been a reassuring time.

Mine began without initial symptoms - no raised temp, nothing obvious, except a little weariness — typical CLL lack of symptoms — essentially, I think I’ve had a cold, a nasty cold, worsened by my asthma being triggered and uncontrolled.. And the CLL immune compromise has slowed my recovery and my improving immune health has worsened my asthma..

What a mess?!

An asthma review tomorrow..

Have you been assessed for asthma? Asthma can be triggered by respiratory infections.

Sorry you have been suffering so. Hope things improve.

Hi have your doctors checked for reflux? I had a cough for 18 months and tried all respiratory products etc. It turned out to be reflux. All gone now.
