Well went to see my Dr. Yesterday ( miss poppy-pants) such a pleasent person not. Month and 1/2 on imburuvica 420mg doing pretty good so far except severe ear pain raw throat. My doc has blowed me off several times about this,she doesnt like me to ask ?or commet in more then 2 words. Really having trouble with this doc. Talked to her nurse had put my foot down about a possible ear infection. Doc gave me a Z-pak and acted like shr was doing me a favor. My wife is so mad at our treatment at this hospital she is ready to move onto a new doc. Newest deal is they move us to last in line even though people come in after us. Nurse said they save the best for last,so the waiting is empty when we leave after 2 1/2 hr doc visit all but 15 min waiting. Really getting old.

Is there no way of changing this doctor Fatboy? This is very poor treatment and you’ll never be happy with her.
Incidentally I’ve got ear and jaw pain with Ibrutinib which I suspect is the roving joint pain moving into the temporomandibular joint. A hot compress helps and I’m hoping it moves on soon!

Just to explain what ‘locking your post’ means and why it’s sometimes important. Posts that you don’t tick the ‘only members of this community’ on when you do an original post (not an answer) makes them available to be indexed on google and they can appear on the net. It doesn’t matter if you or your subject are anonymous but it does mean everyone who responds to you can appear on the net on your post.

Find a CLL specialist, and if this doc is one, find a different one. Do you know how to find a good CLL specialist. Have you looked on the CLL Society website?
Good morning Fatboy98. I am going to be brutally honest with you here. I apologize if I offend you in anyway but sometimes we as patients need to look at both sides of treatment at the hands of physicians. I am a former Hospital Administrator and have dealt with hundreds of doctors during my career. Doctors are human and have prejudices just like anyone. Your doctor sounds like she is disrespects you for some reason. Your posting name “Fatboy”; your age (you said you were old); and your grammar used in your post tells us something about you. Is it possible that your doctor is having trouble relating to you because of something beyond your illness? Again not trying to be mean but when a patient and doctor cannot relate to one another, it is time to move on to a doctor you can relate to. You have the privilege and right to receive good health care. Find someone who will give it to you. Good luck.

It is not my intent to oppose the fact that doctors are subject to human behavior. however, I do hope to influence your point of view, even so I am human and herein will prove to be with fault as well.
First, these services are not free. Even Job's friends when they chastised him in his misery did not bill him for their inappropriate behavior.
The aspect of understanding patient psychology and providing the environment for improving health is the privilege and responsibility of the physician and the administrative structure. Is this not the reason for choosing this profession and investing in such an extensive study? Is it not reasonable to demand that a physician be mentally qualified? While TV programs such as "The Good Doctor" may be entertaining or have emotional influence on public audiences, they do not parallel an acceptable reality for patients faced with potentially fatal outcomes.
As a professional in the medical field and referring to doctors you imply dealing with hundreds. This level of physician prejudice would require that there is need for mandatory periodic psychological evaluations for physicians to assure their actions are sourced from a healthy mental state.
As for the apology to offend in your analogy of Fatboy, the word "but" in your statement speaks to your intended message,( "I apologize if I offend you in anyway but" and "not trying to be mean but") ? But What?
With limited knowledge about "Fatboy", your response implies that Fatboy's expectation is not only unreasonable; He is also to blame for the doctors alleged poor behavior because somehow his HealthUnloccked tag name implies he is old and fat. Does this mean that the physician knows him through this forum?
(Really), If one is not to expect the equivalent outcome for a highly trained and efficacious physician, they might just as well go to the local pub.
At least the bar tender is required to listen and there is usually a happy hour.
Assuming you are sick with CLL, and judging by you response to Fatboy that you are well enough to consume this reasonably, please give a bit of consideration to another point of view.
Please remember Fatboy is sick too.

Even when we take turns sharpening each others blade, as Dr. BK says "we're all in this together".
I do respect that jdolinger expressed that we also see physicians as vulnerable as ourselves. They truly face day in and day out the constant weight of bearing burden. It is rare when someone approaches a physician just to tell them how great things are going and what a good job they do.
Maybe we'll all get an A before school gets out, Right Fatboy?

I believe you are correct grasshopper,she did say i have a wierd sense of humor. On the first day i apologized for everything except breathing,my wife was ready to walk out. When doc can back in i asked her if she h a d a problem with me that i could move on to another doctor. She changed the subject. I was dealt this hand and i will play it out,without being disrespectful, but your opinion is very much appreciated thank you for listening.
Where are you located? Maybe we can help you find a new doctor. I had a very similar experience and had to move on also. It is very scary not to mention irritating when you feel like you are not listened to by your doctor.
I’d have moved on yesterday. There are many good ones out there. Ours treats us like we are the only patient he has that day although we had trouble getting a call back. Good luck!
I suggest going to a primary care physician (or ENT) for the ear pain & raw throat. Might be a secondary infection aggravated by low WBC/neutrophils. I've been on imbruvica/ibrutinib for over 5 years, and my CLL specialist has never written an antibiotic prescription for me. He's 400 miles away. Fortunately, I've only had one or two upper respiratory infections during this time & my local PCP took care of me.

It is definitely not good for you to feel you are not taken seriously by your doctor.
Maybe it is time to look for someone who you will feel comfortable with and you can ask questions. I wish you luck with that.
Also, do you have good general practitioner? Mine is taking care of all of my colds and so on and she is great emotional support when I need it.
It is important, if possible, to have a team we can rely on. This site is very important and, I am so glad I joined this group of very kind warriors.

I would be getting myself a new doctor ASAP! That said, is this your Primary Care Physician or your CLL doc? I agree with Dana and others who have said their PCP takes care of these kinds of things. I have a really good relationship with both doctors, but I use my PCP for all things non CLL related. My PCP keeps my CLL doc informed of most everything, including bloodwork, procedures, etc. The only time I get my CLL doc involved is to make sure that any prescription is ok to use on the trial. Most pharmacists have info about Ibrutinib but aren’t always as up as they should be on Venetoclax. I do also make my CLL doc aware of my infections, since he is the one that requests the IVIG approval from Medicare and my insurance company. Having a good team makes it easier all around. My PCP says he has learned a lot from me about CLL and he likes it that I don’t bother him with CLL stuff and my CLL doc feels the same way about me not “bothering” him about minor illnesses not related to CLL. I am 100 miles away from my specialist so it is imperative that I have good local medical backup. The important thing is to keep your CLL specialist abreast of all health issues you have, even though they might not be caused by the CLL.
Good luck finding a new doc! At this point in the game, I don’t think I would even go back to “Miss Poppi Pants”!

Jdolinger makes an interesting point about doctors having prejudices. In some cases we might know what they are, while in others we have no idea, but that’s their problem, not ours. Over the years I have dumped my share of doctors. If there isn’t a connection on any level, then it’s time to move on! I hope you find someone who both you and your wife can connect with!
