Swooshing in my ears 2am

So for last week or 2 around 2am most mornings I’m awakened to a swooshing sound in my ears and then seems like my heart beat is coming through the Swooshing...... plan on calling hematologist later today and have ordered a bottle cuff. I thought I remember something about platlets or something.... can someone help please thanks in advance

you have pulsatile tinnitis. the usual cause-at least among cll people-is anemia. I had the same sound-especially at night-for nearly 4 months until my rbc and hemoglobin improved

I had this due to sinus swelling or possibly a node swelling that blocked my eustation tubes that drain my ears and caused fluid to build up. eventually caused hearing loss. steroids gave me some temporary relief and treatment with ibrutnib finally resolved it.

I experienced this when my hemoglobin was low. Mine was more constant but my hemoglobin levels were very low. It can be unsettling. Please make sure you get this checked soon. Low hemoglobin can be problematic.

After starting Ibrutinib, my haemoglobin dropped very low (a known side effect of Ibrutinib). I then had that swooshing in my ears when i laid down, and was told it was due to the low hemoglobin. It gradually improved as my haemoglobin slowly improved.

There may be other reasons for the swooshing though, so whatever the reason, I'm glad to hear you're planning to call your haematologist today. Do tell us know what they say.

I have had what i thought sounded like my heartbeat in my right ear for weeks. When i mentioned it at a check up my doctor said it could be a swollen lymph node pressing on something.

Due to steroids my lymph nodes drastically reduced but i still got the heartbeat in my ear, even more so when i am lying down on my right side.

Thank you for highlighting this problem and i will mention the replies you have had at my next check up next week.

Hgb13.0. (13.2-17.1) are normals so it’s a smidgen low

Mine was hovering around 7 and I was getting weekly transfusions.

If low hemoglobin isn’t indicated as a cause check with a cardiologist. Some cardiac issues can cause this also.

Several things can cause: Blood pressure increase, an enlarged lymph node that presses on a blood vessel, charge in thyroid hormones for instance an increase can cause blood pressure changes, the sinus problems made sense too.

I would tell your doctors so they can look into this..

Do you know your pressure? Maybe they should do a CT on your head to see where and how big any lymph nodes in that area are. In the states they do radiology a lot right in the ENT office they have a machine.

If it’s regular tinnitus, then I know changes in hearing may affect it. They test your hearing for that with an audiologist . We have a specialist for that too.

The hematologist may want to send you to an ENT (ear node and throat) doctor.

If it were me I would check my own pressure several times sitting up and laying down and even standing while I call to get an appointment.

What’s a “bottle cuff”?

It is probably reversible or it is just a node shrinking and going away for good.

Just not to worry ....but definitely get it checked out.

I had the exact same symptoms as you and had no idea what was going on. I went to my one month appt ( post starting ibrutinib) with Dr Lamanna last Tuesday, and my CBC's showed that my hemoglobin had tanked from 11.0 to 5.8. i was diagnosed with AIHA (autoimmune hemolytic anemia) and am still in the hospital being treated for it. My numbers are like the stock market...up a few points and then down one or two. The trend is upward, but VERY slow. Looks like I will be spending Mother's Day here, but I have the best doctor ever and I look forward to going home when my body is ready ( and I reach a stable 7.0)!
