Get to a travel clinic and get your vaccinations up to date. I needed several shots when I went to the clinic at 5 weeks prior to my travel. The Doc also prescribed DuKoral which should keep anything e-coli at bay and Malaria pills for that beast too.

My family doctor has prescribed a pair of antibiotics to take with me in case anything comes up while we re away. Cipro and Clavulan

Bring extra batteries for your camera if you are going on safari. Wear browns, greens and avoid blues and blacks to reduce insect attraction.

Get the right type of adapter for your electronics as the power rates may be different than current and the plugs as well.

I will be in Egypt May 16 - 27 and then In Kenya on Safaris out of Nairobi May 28 - June 11. Life is short - have fun !

Make sure you take the malaria meds, mosquitos like foreign travellers.

Take some old t-shirts, pens and paper as well. The reason for this is that the pedlars always ask for those sort of things. Be aware when walking on the beach, if you get approached by a beach pedlar, don’t say you will have a look later, later to them means 10 minutes. We were there 3 weeks and I meant later towards end of holiday. It can actually caused a riot on the beach, so be aware.

It has been a number of years since we visited and I felt uneasy all the time, but hopefully things have changed for the best. We stayed just north of Mombasa for the first part and then Dianna Bay Mombasa for the rest.

Just be aware when out and about. Relax and enjoy.

Oh and DONT FORGET THE HAND GEL.

HOPE I HAVENT turned you off planning your trip.

Hi Juci, I’m planning on travelling to Kenya later this year for the first time, though I’ve been to Southern Africa 13 times in the last 20 years (I was diagnosed in 2001). You’ll need to travel with some antibiotics just in case and take malaria pills but it would also be prudent to carry a letter from a certified travel doctor stating that you’re unable to have the yellow fever vaccine. Enjoy your trip.

My strong suggestion when visiting any African country is make sure you have a doctors note indicating ALL the meds you are taking. They can get very sticky at the border if you just have your drug bottles.
