Would be interested in hearing about people’s experience of chemo in UK especially over 80s as my mum may be offered treatment

Hi Dazt

There is no one answer, and there are many factors involved in selecting a treatment, like other health issues, frailty and so on...

However, in that older body age population often chlorambucil is used as a chemo, since it is a pill with years of use and experience behind it. On occasion, a monoclonal antibody like rituxan of gazyva may be added, for a short period.

Some of the newer non-chemo targeted therapies might also be considered, depending on your Mums genetic CLL profile.

If possible, once you start a treatment discussion, perhaps a second opinion at a large teaching research hospital, would be of benefit, since CLL is rare and more doctors viewing a case the better.
