Sore hands and nails!

Morning....my husbands has been on IB (first line) since October. He’s had a few ups and downs plus the common side effects of rashes/extremely dry skin everywhere! In the last couple of months though his hands have been the problem...tiny but deep cuts on the tips of his fingers, sore blister like spots that scab and bleed, his knuckles are hard and swollen. But the worst thing just now is that all of his finger nails have gone white, brittle and falling off! On his last visit to the Consultant they weren’t half as bad so told to use a double-base moisturiser and Sudocream for the bad bits. I just wonder how others cope with this and what you use to help. In the grand scheme of things it isn’t a major problem but typing and everyday things like doing buttons are becoming increasingly hard and I do worry about infection. Many thanks. Amanda

This does seem to be a common problem with Ibrutinib although I haven't heard of nails falling off or had this problem myself.

Please discuss this with your husbands doctor but it is generally not regarded as a reason to stop Ibrutinib.

Some people have found Biotin helpful but please discuss with your Dr about dose etc.

Hi I have found biotin helps but does not irradiate the nail problem altogether. Mine don’t sound as bad as your husbands and it is an intermittent problem for me. I would defenately get back to your haematologist about the extremity of this problem.

Good luck

Ann

Ha Amanda I am inbrutin8b 79nths in. For the last month or so I have had very dry hands and feet with deep splits. The podiatrist cut away the hard skin and used a mole skin tape to stop the fissure from opening and I have also used a moisturiser recommended by him for the feet. I also use a moisturiser for the hands. Unfortunately it goes with the territory. The ibrutinib for me has changed my life so I am just finding ways around any side effect to remain on it. I wish you well. Mick
