Living with CLL since 2005 but now needing some dentistry and seem to recall reading that metal fillings may not be good news for us CLL folks.

Anyone any thoughts/news/info?

It's another scam:

Maintaining good dental health is particularly important for us, given the increased risk of blood infections we have with our compromised immune systems, particularly if we are neutropenic. Do check with your specialist as to whether you should have prophylactic antibiotics before dental work.

With regard to any fillings you may need, composite filings that match tooth colour have greatly improved in how long they last, so may be worth paying for, but more so for cosmetic reasons than any concern about possible adverse effects on CLL from amalgam fillings.

Last time I needed a filling repair I was told by both my consultant and the dentist that antibiotics are no longer routinely prescribed as prophylaxis but only if required afterwards.

I was given a white filling, looks lovely, only another 12 or so to go!

Thank you for your helpful comments Jm.

Sorry to hear that you have 12 more to go but trust that you will be as pleased with those as you are with the first one.

Every good wish to you...and thanks. A

Hello, Glad you post question. I had posted question about my metal braces. However, metal fillings are not good for anyone. The Composite Resin filling is best. But, check with your insurance company sometimes they will pay only for front 6 (upper/lower). It's been noted Amalgam is better for back teeth.
