Urgent Guidance Requested

My dad has gone through Arotic Valve replacement with Bypass(grpht) of one artery. He got operated on 27/01/18. He got his wbc count on higher side so Dr. Made him discharged at a count of 11500. Then from next day the CBC and INR test done on daily basis and then on alternate basis. On 24/02/18 report of WBC was 9300. But since 23rd he was not feeling to eat.

We consulted a Dr. on 26/02/18 He said due to high intake of medicine his mouth is Red from inside. So he gave a medicine. But today he was feeling to have vomit we took him to nearby hospital and then to where he got treated. As he reached some tests are been conducted and now Dr. Are saying that he got WBC as 30000 and after an hour again they told now WBC is 39000.

And are saying that there is some infection in kidney, and they have to carry out dialysis.

Can any one suggest me what to do as I'm from a lower middle class family.

He is in Medanta now.

Plz suggest me what to do?

Hi SaurabhJagmohan,

You have posted to a community which supports those with just one form of leukaemia - but there are other reasons for high WBC besides leukaemia. Given your father has been diagnosed with what appears to be a severe kidney infection, that may be why his WBC has increased. I suggest you talk about your concerns with your dad's doctor and see what they plan to do. I would expect that they will continue to monitor his blood tests, anticipating an improvement in his WBC when his kidney infection is brought under control. (It would be rather unlikely for your dad to have developed leukaemia at exactly the same time that he has a serious infection, so his infection is highly likely to be the cause of his climbing WBC).

If your dad still has a high WBC when he has recovered from his infection, I would expect that he would be seen by a haematologist, who will investigate which of the many WBC types is raised and look closely into what is causing that increase. I'm not medically trained, so this is just my layman's conjecture.
