Went to cancer Dr on the 23rd..Havnt been feeling well. Wbc 48000 and neutrophils 3x high. Dr doesn't have a clue. Ordered ct on chest, abdomen/pelvis and MRI on head. Developed tremors of the head...also crohns. Don't know if cll, crohns or something else going on..will see. Anyone else have high neutrophils?

Good luck and I certainly hope you will be ok. My husband has CLL and is severely neutrepenic so his numbers are extremely low.

What is your actual neutrophil count? As our lymphocyte count climbs with CLL (we need to track that rather than our WBC), automated counting can incorrectly count CLL cells as neutrophils due to the size overlap. With a WBC count of 48,000 and presumably a lymphocyte count of somewhere between 30 to 40,000, that effect shouldn't be much, so your increased neutrophil count is most likely either due to an infection or some other cause. Good to hear that it is being investigated - please share what is found.

I recommend you ask for copies of your results. Plotting them and seeing the variations over time gives you an appreciation of what's normal for you (though obviously a 3 times change could be of concern and needs some context). For example, I've seen my neutrophil count change over time more than threefold, from 0.26 to 0.89. That's from mid severity 4 level (high risk of infection) to near the top of severity level 3 (moderate risk of infection). You could have a threefold change from 2.0 to 6.0 and that would be of no consequence infection risk wise, because both readings are within the normal range. Context is very important.

I have had high neutrophils (ANC). After diagnosis, ANC was high starting at 16, slowly dropping to 7, then for the first few days of ibrutinib TX, it spiked up to 30 before plummeting to normal range, currently at 6.4. At the same time, my ALC which started near 160 rose to 240 at 3 days post-TX, before rapidly then slowly dropping to 3.5, so there appeared to be a minor correlation between ANC and ALC level for me. My ANC was highest when I was the most stressed as I had no infections during that time, but high ANC could most certainly be due to an infection.

I haven't had any tremors since long ago when I had EBV infection (mononucleosis), which may or may not be linked to some CLL. For a link between Crohns and neutrophils, doing a quick search came up with many links including one abstract that says "This review shows some evidence of neutrophil expression in Crohn's bowel and the process of neutrophil infiltration into the inflamed tissue." I'd most definitely ask your doctor or gastroenterologist.

I hope that your upcoming CT scans help your doctor to give a proper diagnosis and that you are feeling better soon.

Thank you for your reply...I'm thinking infection or maybe the crohns.

Talked to cancer Dr....cll is doing fine...says looks like an infection from my crohns. My crp was double. So I'm waiting to hear from the GI Dr after having more tests....colonoscopy scheduled on the 16th..yuck.
