I am a 68 year old male and was diagnosed about 3 months ago after a routine physical showed a high WBC (it has varied from 22 to 28 to 34 and then back to 28). I have had no physical issues to date. I just got back my flow cytometry results and it shows

Welcome Elam!

Don't be concerned about your white blood cell count [WBC] moving around... it is normal.

To see what CLL is doing you should track your absolute lymphocyte count [ALC] count over time... not blood test to blood test.

Glad you had a flow cytometry, it you didn't say what it indicated... 😀

All the best...

CD38 negative (5%) and CD5 and CD23 at 43% of total cells. The FISH analysis shows only 13q detected at 59.5% with others such as 17p not detected. Overall, I take these as good results. Any comments appreciated.

CD38 suggests mutated, the better of two groups, and 13q is the best of the genetic bunch!

Indolent CLL with a long time to first treatment, in all probability.

Good results. Take it slow. If someone wants to do treatment make sure you get a 2nd opinion from a CLL expert.

The CLL society web site has a lot of good information as well,

30% of people never need treatment

Be well,
