I enjoy the odd alcoholic drink Annabelle and if it's relaxing and in moderation I can't see why not. In fact there is a view that a decent glass of wine can have beneficial effects. It's a contentious area however.

I've certainly never been advised to give up alcohol completely though I'm not drinking presently whilst I'm getting over pneumonia. Most people don't drink during treatment and probably don't feel like drinking at that time.

Looking at your last post you seem to be in the early stages and in good shape so unless your physicians suggest otherwise, I'd simply say, 'cheers!'.

I was advised not to drink red wine during FCR treatment as it would taste dreadful.  I have a glass maybe three or four times a week now on average.

I did try red during treatment, just to see.  One sip, yak, like having a mouth full of liquid 'tin cans'. Tried a couple of glasses of white during the six cycles (not on chemo days), that tasted OK. But not a great lover of white in general.

The advice I got was dont overdo it.

Thanks Rob. My GP said be careful and cancer dr said it was up to me. I guess  because I'm a watch and wait patient

I think caution and moderation in all things is a good motto.

As my disease progressed I seemed to not want that glass of wine in the evening. When my FCR started the Haematology nurse said an occasional glass of white wine was fine. Don't try Red, it won't taste nice.

So, no wine the few days before treatment (my choice) and then a glass of wine when I want after all the pills have gone and I am just left with the daily antibiotics. Something to look forward too when you start to hate the 2-3 litres of water a day during treatment.

Today my doctor said one glass of wine a day. More starts to effect your bone marrow. And you can't save it up.
