I was recently diagnost with CLL.. I just turned 47 I'm at stage 2 on the "watch and wait" for thirty days then I have to go back for another blood test.. Is it ok. To get a flu shot? I really appreciate everyone on this post.. It makes me feel like I'm not alone..

Provided you are otherwise well, you should get up to date on all non-live vaccinations relevant to your circumstances, (i.e. infections common where you live, what you are likely to be exposed to from your grandchildren, or where you plan to travel and so on). Regrettably, our doctors and frequently even our specialists neglect to remind us that with CLL, our ability to generate immunity from vaccines lessens as our CLL progresses (and that's in addition to the natural fall-off as we age). With death from opportunistic infections a major cause of CLL patient death and more so during treatment - even with the new, non-chemo treatments, deciding whether to have a vaccination really is a no-brainer.

However, we must avoid live/attenuated vaccinations, because with our impaired immunity, we are at risk of becoming infected from these vaccinations.

Yes the links posted will help you . Do not get the nasel mist that is a live virus. In the States we have a choice of the 3 flu vaccine or the 4. I called my specialist at Mayo they said get the 4 flu virus shot if you can. Apperently where I live they are difficult to get. So here's to hoping it offers some protection this year. Peace
