Hi formano

The diagnosis for CLL is really the Absolute lymphocyte count, which will not change because your white count may change. This is what is monitored in nearly all cases. You do not mention whether you are recently diagnosed. If you are do take time to read the posts under browse by catagory where you may find the answers to all your questions. Do you know what your absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) is?

Wellcome to the site, I'm sure you will find lots of help on here. We are a friendly bunch.

Hi formano,

IF you have been diagnosed with CLL, then short of a successful Bone Marrow Transplant, you will always have CLL, sadly. Current treatments may knock it back or keep it under control, but it pretty well always comes back eventually - as evidenced by an increasing ALC as Bub mentioned. Hence its label as an incurable blood cancer.

There are indications that a small number of people with the right genetics and given FCR treatment may be cured. (Some involved in the early trials have had remissions of over 10 years now.) Also those that never need treatment and those with lengthy remissions are likely to die from other causes. With treatments improving all the time and better knowledge of how to live with CLL, we are gradually increasing the proportion of those with CLL that have a normal lifespan.
