Anyone know if it is OK to have flu jab when haemoglobin levels around (possibly 11)....ie with low but not rock bottom haemoglobin levels?

Hi Quarry, I don't know the answer, but I had the results of a blood test this last week , Hb 11.7, my Dr knows I am having flu jab soon and she didn't query it, hope this helps. Dotty2dot

Last year the haematologist reminded me to have the flu jab. I have a hemoglobin level that struggles to stay at 11 and platelets that wander between 55 and 70. Also had the jab this year. Both times without side effect.

Thank you Mikeje and Dotty2dot

GP also says ok, even when adding a rituximab treatment I am probably about to embark on. So my jab is booked for 18th

Can I piggy-back on this question regarding flu jabs and ask how soon after having a bad cold/flu would people recommend having the flu jab? I have a cold and sore throat at the moment and the jab is due at the surgery.

I also should ask the doc (but not intending to see him soon I hope) so wondered if others had experience of this.

I rang GP and he rang me back re my question. So you might just get advice today

My suspicion is GP will say flu vaccine is not live, so there is no interference with whatever you have currently. But do ask!

Newdawn - I've been having the flu jab since 1998 and the nurse has always asked if I am unwell in any way eg., a cold or sore throat. They make it clear at the surgery that you should not have the jab whilst you have a cold but wait until you are recovered. You can always make a later apt to have it, if you miss the 'herd' vaccinating. I won't be getting mine till 2nd November,as the vaccine was recalled...don't know why!

Hope you feel better soon

Thanks Quarry, yes you're right I will ask. Just wondered if others had experienced this and been given advice re: timing.

Trouble with flu jab time is that it's done within a set period and I don't want to miss out. Cheers

Thanks for the advice Sparkler, I probably couldn't face it at the moment anyway.

Hope you're feeling ok too or at least beyond a 7! Lol
