MMR is a live virus vaccine, which means it could shed over time, I don't know. You should discuss this with your doctor, who knows your level of immuno compromise.

I think it does depend upon your immune levels. If they are within normal range you should be OK.

Hi flutterbye.

(I realised once I'd written this, that it is 'today' and too late but I'll post it anyway) Lol

I can't give medical advice but through my own CLL research, I have always understood that we shouldn't come into contact with anyone (including children) who has just been given a live vaccine.

If you are not sure, perhaps you could call your CLL specialist?

Having refereed to the green book and other literature supporting the vaccine I am unable to find clear instruction on this matter.

I agree with Sparkler , err on the side of caution and question your consultant.

CLL people are all immune compromised to differing degrees. We know there is a small risk attached to other live vaccine shedding and it's potential effect on the immune compromised. This is often discussed in the wider CLL community, but I cannot find specific evaluation and guidance on MMR vaccine shedding.

Not wanting to be intrusive, but just wondering.... Did you have time to ask the relevant doctor? Did your granddaughter come today?

Hi PaulaS

Did not contact my doctor! My son came today to drop something off, she was in the back of the car and I made the mistake in going out to see her......I`m afraid my heart overruled my head.... I took her in my arms and took her inside.

Oh Flutterbye, I'm sure I'd have done just the same. There are times when our hearts speak the loudest, whatever our heads might say. Hopefully, if she only had the jab yesterday, it won't have had time to react enough to have been any danger to you.

Blessings on you,

Paula

I tend to think by the very nature of 'liability' medics would always err on the side of caution. And the risk seems so small as to be unquantifiable is what I'm gathering.

In this situation my heart would have overruled too I'm afraid. The benefits of a cuddle from a much loved granddaughter has got to do wonders for the immune system and sense of well being I'm sure flutterbye. Regards,
