It all started with a purple toe!

I've had high cholesterol for more than twenty years and although I've been prescribed statins, have never continued taking them until recently when I developed a purple toe. The doctor was concerned it was an embolism and I was sent for several tests and to see a consultant. It appears from an ECG that I have a left bundle branch block and it was suggested I take Rosuvastatin and Clopidogrel as a blood thinner. Previously to taking Rosuvastatin, I had taken Atorvastatin but developed side effects. I've now developed a rash and wondered if anyone else has had this problem with Rosuvastatin? At the moment I'm taking a tablespoonful of olive oil each morning as I found that helped to reduce my cholesterol some years ago. I'm 76 years old and consider myself to be fit. My last cholesterol test taken last year was 8 although I did reduce it to 5.4 a few years ago which I put down to olive oil.

Thanks Sandy, I stopped taking it after I developed a rash but after a week, I decided to try taking one tablet every other day. After taking three tablets, I was unable to use my arms, my husband had to undress me at night and dress me in the mornings, I could not comb my hair, open the top cupboard units in the kitchen, pull my trousers up when I'd been to the toilet - the list goes on. For me, statins are a no no. Never will I forget the pain in the muscles of my arms!

Thank you for your comment and well done for managing without tablets. As I've been taking statins and had such an awful reaction to them, my doctor has told me never to take them again but it will take two weeks before my body gets rid of them. I shall certainly be more careful with diet, though have never been a takeaway fanatic!
