Statins and stomach cramps .

After results of a blood test in October 2022 my Dr advised me to start taking one Altorovastatin 20mg tablet daily .

I am a 70yr old male and I have never taken statins before .

I took the tablets for 4 weeks then had to stop taking them due to unbearable excruciating stomach cramps that prevented me getting any sleep until I stopped them .

Now 1yr on and my Dr has suggested I take one Rosuvostatin 5mg daily , this I have taken for 3 weeks and again I have had to stop taking them due to the unbearable excruciating stomach cramps .

My Dr has said that as I have tried 2 different ones there is no point in trying others as I have an intolerance to statins , and although there is other medication available this would have to be sanctioned by the hospital .

I would be interested to hear from others who have experienced such stomach cramps .

Hi, this has interested me greatly as I started taking Atorvastatin (20mg) in January and have suffered from stomach cramping & bloating every week since. I've been trying to find a trigger.... maybe this is the answer?!
