Hey all...probably already asked this but how long does arterial plaque take to build up to levels of worry
Plaque : Hey all...probably already... - Cholesterol Support
Plaque
I was told by my cardiologist that it can happen fairly rapidly. My coronary artery became 95% blocked in about a year or so after a lifetime of competitive sports - running, swimmimg and triathlons. I am 70 and had a stent implanted last year.
Quite quickly. A cousin died very suddenly three days ago aged 53 because of sudden locked coronary artery while out jogging jogging etc. I think jogging is not a good idea! Walking & house based excercise betyer!
Jogging is dude it helps prevent heart disease...idk I've been told its cholesterol and stuff by my doctor
My Dr. Told me the same thing. She wanted me to add in 30mins of walking/Jogging or aerobics /cardio into my daily routine. Iam Only 26. And here is your answer from a Medical website
Dr.Herbbid:
Plaque usually takes 5 to 10 years to build up to levels we are concerned about. Remember it is not always the size of the plaque that is the greatest risk. The stability of the plaque is most important. We stabilize plaque using statin drugs, and then try to reduce plaque size by reducing blood levels of free fats and cholesterol.
I had a stent put in to unblock my clogged artery 1 1/2 years ago. Am now back running 5k every day and have done two races. All with the blessing of my expert cardiologists. Had your cousin been able to have this procedure, he probably been alive today. Sorry for your loss.
Anyone with secevre chest pain should have a heart catherization done and a stent implanted if necessary. I am 70 years old.
