Research conducted by the University of Alberta in Canada has found that health benefits in resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, are equivalent to those that we get from exercise.
According to lead researcher, Jason Dyck, these findings will help those unable to exercise as resveratrol was seen to improve physical performance, heart function and muscle strength.
"I think resveratrol could help patient populations who want to exercise but are physically incapable," he says. Resveratrol could mimic exercise for them or improve the benefits of the modest amount of exercise that they can do."
Discussion over the health benefits of red wine have been well documented. Studies have revealed that those who drink a glass of red wine a day are less likely to develop dementia or cancer, that it's good for your heart, anti-ageing and can regulate blood sugar.
And now there's research backing that fact that it boosts heart rate? This is literally the best thing ever.
Though, let's be straight here - this is all in moderation and it only applies to red wine. Other foods that include resveratrol? Blueberries, peanut butter, red grapes and dark chocolate - so mix it up. Remember, a balanced diet is everything.
Is this really true - does anyone out there know?

What if you are type 3/4 or type 4/4 APO E gene , should you be consuming any alcohol. Why not get the resveratrol without the alcohol from grapes etc
Sounds too good to be true so it probably is - that's usually the way it goes! Still, if you believe it then it will probably work. Sort of placebo effect ? Enjoy it I say!
Is it the wine or the grape? If resveratrol is found in blueberries, peanut butter and dark chocolate - why advertise the benefits of red wine when there is no link to the alcohol component? People who consume alcohol do not need any more reason to justify imbibing .
Precisely. It's the fruit not the alcohol. Maybe even better with the skins on! Though MODERATION may be ok. But what do you call moderate.
Back in 1990, on the ward at the Middlesex Hospital, London, that did angioplasty...
Consultant: "There's some slight evidence that a glass or two of red wine may be good for you, but even if it's not, it'll make the world seem like a better place".
He didn't specify what glass size to use, but I've been following his advice very, very carefully ever since.
in France doctors do not classify wine as alcohol! A wine called Madiran has been clinically proven to assist in the reduction of fats in the system, unfortunately is only really available in France and Corsica. Drinking some now as it happens. Treating it as a medicine!!
